Senator Knacyntar Nedd-Charles Calls for Change in Barbuda Council Elections
Senator Knacyntar Nedd-Charles has urged voters in Barbuda to support candidates who are committed to development, accountability, and effective governance in the upcoming local government elections. Speaking at the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate presentation, she highlighted the need for leaders who prioritize results over political allegiance.
She criticized the current Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM)-led Council, questioning its ability to deliver tangible progress for residents. “It is time for voters to evaluate the track record of those in office and ask what has been accomplished. Representation should not be about party loyalty, but about who can get the job done,” she said.
Nedd Charles endorsed the five ABLP candidates—Bernard Alexander Christian, Bonita John-Dezouza, Makisha Desouza, Orlando Morris, and Arthur Nibbs—stating that they are committed to improving infrastructure, housing, and economic opportunities. “These candidates are dedicated to the people. They have worked tirelessly in their communities and will ensure that the Council delivers real change,” she said.
She also addressed concerns about key projects in Barbuda, including the Louis Hill development. She dismissed claims that the initiative would not benefit residents and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring access to housing. “Development projects are designed to provide opportunities for the people of Barbuda, from job creation to homeownership,” she stated.
Highlighting economic growth, she pointed to the expansion of tourism and new infrastructure as key opportunities for local businesses. She emphasized that electing the right representatives would ensure that these benefits reach the people of Barbuda. “From the new airport to the growth of tourism, there are clear signs of progress. The right leadership will make sure that these opportunities are maximized for the benefit of residents,” she said.
Nedd Charles urged voters to carefully consider their choices at the polls on 26 March, stressing that the outcome of the elections would determine the direction of Barbuda’s future. “This is a decision that will shape the years ahead. It is about choosing leaders who will work for you and ensure the development of Barbuda,” she said.
The local government elections are expected to be a closely contested vote, with both parties seeking to secure control of the Barbuda Council.

I hope it truly benefits the people and not just political agendas.
let’s see if it gains traction or faces pushback from the Council.
I was at Madison Square on the sidelines and she did not say what’s written here.
Big head does not know the difference between Louise Hill and Katel Hill. I know they have their eyes on both sites but she does not know the difference
She chaired a meeting about housing in Barbuda which was about rebuilding Barbuda Housing in Codrington with the money from the Jumby Bay Owner’s Trust. The monies were also from the Prince Trust all of which was to be done right after Irma
Where was the Senator or anyone else since Irma with the money to rebuild the damaged homes in Codrington. Most houses are completely rebuilt. Housing stock in Barbuda is better than Antigua.
Now ABLP wants to build housing in farm lands in order to bring people who will vote for them.
This the person Nedd who said a needs assessment done after the Irma Hurricane will not be updated for it’s too expensive.
It cost more to fly the group in the meeting into Barbuda than the costs of the need assessment.
Most of whom were there for the day trip to Barbuda
The minutes of the meeting tells the story. Nothing stated in the meeting could not be done over Zoom when all but one who were Antigua residents
What is the performance history of the last ABLP led Barbuda Council?
They are responsible for initiating the 199 year lease to Robert Di Nero to build a hotel that has not been built as yet.
They are the ones who handed over the Beach club to an UK ex-con who
then flipped it to PLH for USD $10 million and Barbuda has not seen a penny
They are the ones who were fooled by the young British scam artist who told them he is building houses for the Harry and brother Princes.
Same crew did all those things and call them development.
Development in their view are for the beach boys and waiters.
Anyone question what is written here take a visit yo Nobu on Barbuda and see all the European people working there and the Barbudans cleaning the beach and that’s developments
We no want this backward thinking crew to sell us out anymore eith tgere political agendas
I just can’t believe these black rudderless adamant barbudans youth will sacrifice their country for personal gains, it’s a conflation of issue because the barbudans population will face gentrification in the future with super wealthy elites housing on beach front juxtapose with shacks in Codrington town area with subjected boundaries since you already have buffer zone, Barbuda should have indigenous peoples developing those beach front land through the council, all the complains of council not doing anything is stymied by Gaston and plus neocolonialism, when the Blackman is elected in the Westminster politics system, it is completely created for white validation and supervision, they are like coconut brown outside and white inside, they keep their people in check and restraint as the white colonials use to do, they keep you poor on the ghetto, none is prepared to let black Antiguan or Barbudans reside on the white sandy beaches,if the council had freed the people from the Codrington boundaries to the coastal area, the fight the Barbuda people have with Gaston selling the lands would not be happening, there is where I blame the council, and so to would ALP politicians act the same neocolinial agenda to keep down black people and Barbudans on a whole. How can the ALP council aspirants look a buffer zone Infront of them by these white people who are forced on them during their evacuation by Gaston during hurricane Irma, only to be held at gun point by police and military until the white man get their plots surveyed then Arthur nibbs work to get laws pass to sell the lands, Arthur nibbs photo here shows a man who has amassed wealth from these white scheme but want to go in to finish the job of putting Barbuda in white hands.
Definitely TIME FOR CHANGE!!! Trevor “BROWN PAPERBAG” Walker and his brainwashed minions need to go!!!!! Some SELFISH, BACKWARD, ENTITLED, CONTROLLING freaks!!!!
ALL LANDS ARE VESTED IN THE CROWN!!!!
This is the moment that Barbudans will have to face reality,if thay people who will represent well, through jobs opportunity, investment, and development or they want people who don’t care much about their well being..
@ELDREAD
You say it better than me.
Its better to have a BPM Council who maintain the status quo, in as much as it’s failure.
ABPM Council is the last line of defence from Barbuda becoming a Jumby Bay on steroids. Where most of Barbuda will become NO Trespassing and you have to be on the list as a worker to enter.
It’s better than an ALP Council who in order to fill their individual pockets gives away 200 years of Barbidans fighting for their land.
Hopefully Barbudanz will take the money that the man from Green Hill is walking around hanging out to buy votes and reject the ALP at the ballots
If they think what they have to offer is do good and be if it’s Barbudans why does ALP thinks it need to hand out money to get votes?
ABLP have done nothing for Barbuda, the people there do not like them, homes that were destroyed still remains they literally have one road that was paved by the UPP admin not even a 1/4 mile in from the port.
What jobs they got there, being a fishermen and a bit of tourism and sand export?
What investment have they suggested a hotel that was going to displace people from their homes calling them squatters, you basically want to make them a Jumby Bay which is just 21th century slavery they want you to live and die serving people and millionaires that sees profits in one month that you will never make in yours and children’s children lifetime.
Growing up watching this government that refuse to implement any social policies even finishing the public car park(Now abandoning that plan to turn it into office space. like isn’t that more expensive?) since they are liberal to do anything themself depending on millionaire investors while people are suffering and the crimes is reflecting that.
Watching Antigua makes me hate this government and what my country have turned into and visiting Barbuda have made up my mind, I hope Barbuda never give in so they can form a modern island from the current blank landscape that can be so much more unlike Antigua that is already tainted.
Lets Goooooo ABLP!! LABOUR PARTY ME SAY!
MP Trevor sat in Cabinet under the UPP’s WICKED SUNSHINE GOVERNMENT and didn’t do shit for Barbudans except cuss them! Time to send a message to the “born racist” that enough of his FAILED REPRESENTATION and LIES!
To quote Trevor Walker in addressing Barbudans:
“…and seem to be on a protracted path of
-GAMBLING
-IDLENESS
-SEXUAL PROMISCUITY
-DRUG ABUSE
-ALCOHOL ABUSE
-BADMINDED-NESS
-COVETUOUS-NESS
-SELFISHNESS
-UNPRODUCTIVITY. People don’t want to work
-DECEITFULNESS
-People badminded and just covet other people
-LACK OF RESPECT FOR OTHERS
-LACK OF RESPECT FOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY
Council say work til 4 o’clock or 5 o’clock. You warn go home 10 o’clock
-LAZINESS
-THE LOVE FOR MONEY
-GREEDINESS
And the last one which I find is the most profound for me:
-OUR TURNING AWAY FROM GODLY THINGS”.
~Member of Parliament Trevor Walker
@ Truth Be Told,
You use the term all lands are vested in the Crown.
I suspect we differ on the meaning of those words.
I also suspect you are simply repeating what you hear, and not what you have read from credible independent sources.
Since your moniker is “truth be told”
expand on that statement as it applies to Barbuda.
I’ll give you a clue: “All lands are vested in the Crown” How is applied to Barbuda? Enlighten me and others with your truth or be nasty and or run and hide for that’s your truth.
Barbuda is merely a CONSTITUENCY within the Sovereign nation of Antigua & Barbuda & Redonda.
A handful of brainwashed imbeciles will NOT stop progress in the constituency of Barbuda. Any challenges will be fought in the court. The BPM council WASTED MONIES to fly Justin “Loser Lawyer” Simon all the way to the Privy Council only to be told that the claimants:
“no realistic prospect of succeeding in their claim under section 9(1) of the Constitution.”
That BPM Council also spent $50,000 on a bogus “Human Resource Audit” and to date, no report of the findings of this audit has been made available. What a WICKED, CORRUPT, BPM COUNCIL!!! Shrouded in secrecy. NO TRANSPARENCY!!!!
Even a broken clock is right twice per day
Yes the court says:
“no realistic prospect of succeeding in their claim under section 9(1) of the Constitution
and yes it was foolish to take that case to the courts especially when another Barbudan had lost an identical case earlier.
But the Court also defined Barbudans rights which all the comments generally ignored
The Print Council also said the land is vested in the Crown as well as it’s “communal lands” and the process that has to be followed in assigning lands in various use categories.
The public is ignorant of those facts. “Read the Privy Council Document” and don’t depend on political charlatans and propaganda
