Senator David Massiah, General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union, raised concerns about digital banking’s impact on the elderly.
He highlighted emerging connections between the African Union, China, and Russia, as well as bonds between Africa and the Caribbean, especially the digital bank’s formation, which could be game-changing.
Massiah acknowledged digital banking’s convenience but noted its challenges for seniors with cash deposits.
He expressed worries about the geopolitical atmosphere, citing threats like potential impacts on the vital American dollar, essential for regional economies.
Senator Massiah also expressed concerns about the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), projecting a 37.3% annual increase from 2023 to 2030, potentially displacing workers as machines automate tasks.
He called for vigilance among workers and emphasized the importance of well-trained communications officers. Massiah urged governments to introduce AI for positive changes in healthcare and education, fostering creativity and human advancement.
