Senator Knacyntar Nedd Raises Alarm Over Crime and Drug Use in Barbuda

Senator Knacyntar Nedd has called for urgent action to address the growing challenges of crime and drug use in Barbuda, warning that the island’s youth are at risk without immediate intervention.

Speaking during the 2025 budget debate in Parliament, Senator Nedd described the strain on Barbuda’s law enforcement as “logistically unworkable” given the island’s population of more than 3,000 people. She pointed out that the local police force comprises just 14 officers, most of whom are primarily assigned to fire duties.

“This is simply not enough to effectively police Barbuda,” she said. “The lack of manpower makes it difficult to address rising crime and ensure the safety of residents.”

The senator expressed grave concerns about the prevalence of hard drugs among young people, stating that the impact was visible in the community. “I’ve seen young people my age and younger walking around like zombies. They are being destroyed by hard drugs, and it’s heartbreaking to witness,” she said.

Senator Nedd urged community leaders and government officials to work together to implement robust social programmes aimed at providing opportunities for Barbuda’s youth. These initiatives, she said, should focus on education, employment, and community engagement to steer young people away from negative influences.

She also welcomed the government’s plans to establish a Coast Guard base in Barbuda, which she believes will enhance security and improve response times to incidents. However, she stressed that addressing the root causes of crime and drug use required a broader strategy.

“This is a call to action for all stakeholders. We must provide not only stronger policing but also the social support needed to prevent young people from falling into these dangerous patterns,” she said.

Senator Nedd’s remarks come as Barbuda undergoes significant development, including the construction of new infrastructure and the expansion of tourism projects. She urged local leaders to ensure that the well-being of residents remains a priority amidst the island’s transformation.

“We cannot afford to let this crisis go unchecked,” she said. “It is our responsibility to secure a better future for Barbuda’s youth and the community as a whole.”

  1. BROWN PAPERBAG cussed them out a few years ago, but he didn’t mention the drug abuse part

To quote Trevor Walker in addressing Barbudans:

“…and seem to be on a protracted path of
    -GAMBLING
    -IDLENESS
    -SEXUAL PROMISCUITY
    -DRUG ABUSE
    -ALCOHOL ABUSE

    -COVETUOUS-NESS
    -SELFISHNESS
-UNPRODUCTIVITY. People don’t want to work
    -DECEITFULNESS
-People badminded and just covet other people
    -LACK OF RESPECT FOR OTHERS
-LACK OF RESPECT FOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY

  2. wait! Why didn’t MP TREVOR WALKER raise these issues???? After all he is ELECTED….oh wait! he busy MISBEHAVING AND THROWIN TEMPER TANTRUMS IN PARLIAMENT instead of acting like an adult.

  3. It’s the inevitable that crime, drug use and violence with be increasing rapidly on Barbuda. The foundation has been laid by the government with their don’t give a damn attitude.
The private airport will be another transit point for dope, drugs, humans and other contrabands into and out of the region.
The Cartels, Mobs, Gangs, Cabals, Armies, Indentured Servants and Slaves Plantations still operates as a business, as they establish themselves on Barbuda.

    • tarl! The foundation was laid with the Franks, BPM and Trevor Walker with their BRAINWASHING, CULT INDOCTRINATION and training the people to be dependent on them for everything. Trevor have them right where he want them.

Imagine Trevor own HOUSE & LAND in Royal Gardens ANTIGUA, but dont want Barbudans to take the $1 offer to LEGALLY OWN Crown land.

  4. You really have a problem with the Hon. Trevor Walker! You sure it’s not jealousy? Every one has a mind of their own and if they believe in something then no matter what anyone tells them they will stick to their convictions. No need for brainwashing, Barbudans know what they want and nobody go run we, no body go buy we out! Ee land nar fu sale! Buy you land in Antigua and leave Buda land alone for the people. Tap sell out Antigua land to foreign so called ‘investors’ and preserve it for grassroots Antiguans. The young generation coming up can’t get a piece of the rock to purchase because the government taking it and selling the best/prime lands to the wealthy ‘nah come from ya’ nearga. Go call up your prime Minister about that and tap mind Trevor Walker business, at least he have ambition and set his goal to achieve more in life. If nearga that nah have no ties or connection to Antigua and Barbuda can come ya and buy and own land and house, then don’t you think Trevor have a right too? Our land is for our people in Barbuda, don’t blame us if Papa Bird put yours for sale!

  5. Wait this young lady need think that the strategy of getting the land is not going to follow by drugs , prostitution, stealing and killing, the purposeful transfer of all these south American ad other people by land grabbers like so call PLH doesn’t end peacefully, they even pull a stunt where they used this high tech glass material that makes things invisible or disappear to scare the Barbuda people where they saying a man vanishes at night, which they are preying on the superstitious belief of our people who are made so by religion, in that case they get the people to stay away from the lands and stick in their slave quarters and secure their lands Jim crow style. Trust me Barbuda will never know peace again. Why don’t need admit that the land occupation by force is incongruent with Barbuda customs. It is purposely imported as a way to passified the men from fighting about their lands, like bringing young girls as prostitution to control them.and drugs and alcohol.

  7. There is so much more wrong in Barbuda besides what Senator Need is saying. She is just scaling the surface.
Trevor Walker and the Barbuda Council are only interesting in keeping controlling the Council and the benefits to be derived from their positions.
Trevor and the Council has sold-out Barbudans and the sad thing Barbudans are not aware the the people they elected to protect them from what they taught was to be protected. These people have fooled for so long and now they have sold them out big time.
The Barbuda Council has taken the position that land owners objecting to their land being confiscated are on the own. Gaston is taking over people’s farm and the Council and Trevor don’t have any objections. .
Remember the Privy Council says it’s Crown Land. That is not arguable any longer. The Privy Council also says in there ruling that GOAB can not take a families land they have already got using for economic purposes and benefits without adequate compensation.
So anyone you you who thinks Trevor Walker and the Barbuda Council are fighting for Barbudans to hold on to their land are totally uninformed. The land is being taken from families and Trevor and the Council are hiding with Gaston
