Senator Joseph Praises Police Constable for Quick Action in Apprehending Suspect

Senator Michael M. Joseph has commended Constable Akilah Grant, a recent graduate of the Sir Wright F. George Police Academy and a member of the St. John’s Rural West community, for her swift and courageous response in apprehending a man accused of snatching jewelry from a tourist in St. John’s on Saturday.

“Constable Grant has demonstrated a strong commitment to protect and serve. Her efforts led to the apprehension of a man who snatched jewelry from a tourist in St. John’s. We are deeply proud of you as you continue on this new journey of service,” Senator Joseph remarked.

Attorney General and Public Safety Minister, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin, also praised Constable Grant for her bravery.

Despite sustaining injuries while subduing the suspect, she successfully prevented his escape and has since received medical treatment.

Sir Steadroy credited the increased police presence in the city for enabling swift responses to such incidents.

Another graduate of the Police Academy, Constable Jeremiah Clarke, was commended for maintaining his professionalism during a tense encounter with a motorist.

A viral video showed Clarke remaining composed while issuing a ticket for an alleged traffic violation, even as the motorist hurled insults.

Sir Steadroy highlighted these officers’ actions as evidence of the high standards instilled during their training. He expressed gratitude to the Police Administration for their dedication to preparing officers for the demands of the job.

  1. So Far these new officers have been exceptional. Keep it up, let the public have faith in the police again and together we will significantly reduce the crime rate in Antigua and Barbuda. WELL DONE CONSTABLES

  2. Constable Grant kudos to you on your brilliant performance running down and tackling that petty thief
You showed bravery and courage and you showed exactly why you became an officer
Thank you very much you are making Antigua and your Squadd very proud
It would be nice to see the police wearing comfortable shoes like black or blue sneakers the can be steel toe as well instead of them Boo jangle RAPID dancing hard shoes
They would be able to chase lawless culprit
Once again Kudos to Officer Grant job well done you deserve an award

  3. The Attorney General and the Police Service Commission should be ashame; and be sued for gross negligence of incompetence and dereliction for-allowing uniform officers to be on patrol tour of duties without the necessary tools: to include side-arm, radio, mace-canister, cavalr vest, and strategically place buddy-backup team to effectively render their services while on foot patrol. Just the presence of an officer in a well starched press and pleated uniform-outfit does not lend itself to effective deterrent for brazenly hardened criminals of nefarious background infecting our society. The right tools in the hands of trained personnel is the most effective way for deterrent and apprehension if need be. Our current state of societal consciousness demands that our first-line defensive officers be given the adequate tools to effectively serve their mandated oath: to serve and protect. Nothing else will surfice my humble citizen opinion. Heaping praise of exemplary stance and courage after an officer had been injured in the cause of preforming their duty; is of no recompense to the injured officer or society at large; and demands structured changes in the administrative mindsets be immediately implemented to address this mediocrity in policing. An unarmed police officer on patrol is a direct liability to the public and the officer’s wellbeing.

  4. I knew it!!! Done say she had to be from the new batch because she jus recently trained so she ready like Freddy..Once again job well done and I hope you keep up the good work…Do not let time make u fall in line with the bad apples…

  5. Really hope she doesnt spend the next 20 years showing bravery and working hard at Constable rank….Seems to be the trend for the hard workers but the who I am close to, who I am willing to throw under the bus type always climb the ladder….

  6. HANDIT2ME: …WORLD OF SENSE

For an officer with ‘…ONLY 30-DAYS in the ‘…Police Service, the action was not only ‘…HIGHLY COMMENDABLE,’ but also a ‘…DUTY LEGALLY BOUND TO PERFORM’ [Sections 22 and 23: Police Act: Chapter 330].

Non-response to the commission of a crime, whether personally viewed or reported, would have meant a ‘…Disciplinary Charge of: ‘…NEGLECT OF DUTY’ [Police Disciplinary Code: Chapter 330].

    ***

Indeed, that to which you have referred, makes a ‘…WORLD OF SENSE.’

However, you might be referencing the ‘…WRONG AUTHORITIES.’

    FOR NEITHER:

    (i) ‘…The Attorney General (AG): nor

(ii) …The Police Service Commission (PSC)’ has responsibility for the ‘…SUPERINTENDENC’ of the Police Service’ [Section 6: Police Act: Chapter 330].

  7. WHAT THE HELL…? …GOODLY SENATOR SINGING FROM AG’S HYMNAL…?

    NOW:

When one reads this news story, from that which was previously reported, it appears obvious that the ‘…GOODLY SENATOR’ is ‘…SINGING FROM THE AG’S HYMNAL.’

KEEP ON SINGING, SENATOR. … FOR WHATEVER, SING….?
