Antigua and Barbuda’s Senator Michael Joseph has welcomed new regional commitments to strengthen health systems following high-level talks in Washington, D.C.
Joseph joined health officials from across the Caribbean at the 50th Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD–Health) Meeting, chaired by Grenada’s Health Minister Philip Telesford.
The gathering marked several milestones, including CARICOM’s endorsement of the Pandemic Agreement, the launch of the PAHO–CARICOM Cooperation Strategy, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between CARICOM and HEDPAC.
Delegates also advanced discussions on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and examined the impact of crime as a public health issue.

Senator Joseph said the talks underscored the urgency of building resilient health systems in the face of climate and economic pressures, adding that regional cooperation remained central to the Caribbean’s preparedness and response.
