Senator Joseph and Minister Nicholas Meet Residents Over 15-Year Water Shortage in Cooks and Golden Grove Extensions

Senator Michael M. Joseph and Information, Communications Technologies, Utilities and Energy Minister Melford Nicholas visited Cooks Extension and Golden Grove Extension on Friday to meet residents facing more than 15 years without APUA water.

Residents said the ongoing shortage stems from the land developer’s failure to deliver the required infrastructure, leaving households without access to running water for over a decade. The walkthrough gave community members an opportunity to share their experiences directly with the officials.

The visit formed part of what Senator Joseph described as the government’s renewed commitment to extend reliable water access to every community in Antigua and Barbuda. He said both Minister Nicholas and Prime Minister Gaston Browne have pledged to resolve the long-standing infrastructure gaps affecting the area.

Residents welcomed the engagement and expressed hope that the promised improvements will soon be delivered.

  1. Maybe Ministers Joseph and Nicholas should visit 5 Islands. On a good week, 5 Islands gets APUA water once or twice (at most). For example, we got water the Wednesday before Independence and didn’t get water again until the Thursday after Independence. In 2025, there is no excuse for such poor service – especially when you still have to pay water bill every month. This is just damn ridiculous!!

  2. …and the most annoying part of the experience is that APUA doesn’t even think that they should notify the pubic of an on-going problem. I called 311 to ask when can we expect to get water and the young lady said that she couldn’t say. She said the level in some tank was low. How is that my problem? All I know is that I pay my water bill every month and getting water is a rarity for me

And my comments are not aimed at any specific party. Both major parties have failed spectacularly in their obligation to provide potable water to the residents of A&B.

  3. What lies and hypocrisy!!!
The minister is helping the senator to campaign in the constituency.
People please help me to laugh.
The minister and senator are meeting constituents in the NIGHT to discuss their water woes.
    Who believes that?
Anyone who believes that Melford and Michael were meeting constituents in the night deserve the medal as second in command of the animal kingdom.
Melford and Michael will be tied for first place and the person who believes them will be in second place.
Well, there will also be a tie for that place.
All laboRATs will believe it and tie for second place.

  4. I live right on that a d its been over 15 years we don’t have water they couldn’t even come in the afternoon or on a weekend I wasn’t even home from work yet half of the people wasn’t even spoken to .

  5. Their intention was never to meet residents. It was a photo op so that some stooge could write a puff piece in this newspaper. I am waiting with bated breath for anyone to come to my place to campaign

  6. Politics is really screwed up in Antigua, shouldn’t it be the Minister and the sitting Representative of the constituency. This Administration doesn’t have a clue of what good governance is all about. Michael Joseph will always be a Caretaker no matter what slick moves are tried

  7. If the government delivers on this, it could dramatically improve daily life for the families in those areas. Water changes everything.

  8. @ Straight Shooter
Do not really be surprised if they were really meeting people in the night. The ABLP is slicker than Vaseline. Some people say that’s how Melford won his seat last election, they were meeting constituents in the night, not talking about improvements, but doling out the dole, if you get my drift
