Senator Jonathan Joseph Rejects Proposed Vehicle License Fee Hike at Picket Outside PM’s Office

Opposition Senator Jonathan Joseph joined a picket outside Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s office this morning, voicing strong opposition to the proposed increase in vehicle licensing fees.

Joseph, the United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St. Mary’s North, criticized the government’s handling of public funds, particularly concerning road projects. He questioned the accountability for borrowed funds, highlighting instances where roads have deteriorated before completion despite significant taxpayer contributions.

“I’m saying to the citizens of this country that not one red cent should be paid toward this proposed tax,” Joseph declared. He emphasized that his presence at the protest was in direct response to concerns raised by his constituents, who have reached out through visits, calls, and messages urging him to take a stand.

While acknowledging that more supporters were expected at the picket, Joseph insisted that public sentiment remains firmly against the fee hike. “They are not having it—not one red cent,” he affirmed.

The government’s proposed increase, which has sparked widespread public concern, is set to be discussed in Cabinet next Wednesday before being debated in Parliament’s Lower House.
