Senator Hon. Colin O’Neal Browne is rightfully refuting a recent deliberate misrepresentation of remarks that were expressed at a recent vigil, to which he was invited by the Venezuelan Ambassador, Carmen Velasquez.
While Senator Browne was quite measured in expressing an appreciation to be invited to the momentous occasion of solidarity and peace, he did not make any statements criticizing the removal of the Venezuelan leadership of the sovereign state, nor did he address the internal political situation in Venezuela, as published by the Antigua Newsroom on January 23, 2025.
The comments attributed to him in the Antigua Newsroom are profoundly inaccurate, misleading and should be retracted forthwith and with an apology. Failure to comply immediately will leave Senator Browne no other alternative but to seek legal redress soonest.

As a Government Senator, you have to chose your stop and destinations carefully and cautiously. Antigua and Barbuda can ill afford anymore problems with the US. US senators a few republicans, but most democrats have publicly decried the actions taken in Venezuela. Most have labelled it illegal (contrary to US law) and some labeled it neo colonialism. Yet some commenters here argue that a Antiguan senator (also a journalist) should not attend a vigil where he can hear the concerns of Venezuelans living here. Caricom’s position, and so also A&B’s is that the US action was wrong. As Mark Carney reminded a few days ago, all of us need to stop calling wrong right. Fear should not be our guide but a demand for justice.

Since when journalist performing journalism participate in vigil and protest? I have never seen a CNN or FOX or NBC journalist participating in vigils while working as a journalist.

My way, I’ll give you the benefit of doubt that the picture was different or something but not getting his political affliction from the red tie and rag in his pocket is on you. But that is not important the actions leading up and the capture of Maduro by a outside force weren’t legal and had victims the same way and following that the oil is used for personal gain for the US.
