The government’s second Seven Seas desalination plant is set to come on stream this weekend, adding roughly two million gallons of water per day to the national supply network.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant confirmed that the new facility will begin production within days as part of ongoing efforts to improve water access across the island.
“The plant will go into production this coming weekend and will produce approximately two million gallons of water per day,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing.

He noted that residents in northern communities such as Hodges Bay, Coolidge, New Winthorpes, Barnes Hill, Blue Waters, and Cedar Valley are expected to benefit from the increased output.
However, he cautioned that improvements may not be immediately noticeable, as testing and system adjustments will take place once operations begin.
The new desalination plant is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen water reliability, particularly in drought-prone areas, and forms part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades managed by the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA).

Nice!
Regards I appreciate this
Stop wasting taxpayers money. All the articles in this paper about all these new plants, and still APUA can’t keep the water running in Antigua. Where I live sometimes the water is off for over a week. Just stop with the BS. This is just another pre-electiom piece to try and gain favour for the sitting government. Antigua people are really easily manipulated. Ah doneness run ya.
With all them broken pipes me still nar get no water….smfh
Anansi, you are such a foolish person. You want water, or not? You can’t get water without a water producing plant….
This should take some pressure off the system. Now let’s see consistent delivery reaching the communities that need it most.
Hmmmm where next? We need to cover the whole of Antigua
