The Ministry of Education has announced that public schools in Barbuda will be closed on Friday, October 10, as a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the island.
The decision follows forecasts indicating an increased likelihood of tropical-storm-force winds affecting Barbuda as Tropical Storm Jerry moves near the northern Leeward Islands tonight into tomorrow.
Public schools on mainland Antigua, however, will remain open. A Tropical Storm Watch is currently in effect for Antigua and several other islands in the Leeward chain.
Authorities are advising residents in Barbuda to complete preparations and monitor official updates as the system approaches.
