The annual School Uniform Grant Programme returns in July for the 16th consecutive year and organizers are moving ahead with preparations.
Training for customer service agents and data entry clerks has begun ahead of the 5th July start of the programme, with special emphasis on dealing with members of the general public during COVID-19.
SUGP Supervisor, Tanesha Mckenzie-James explainedeffective immediately, application forms will be available for previous beneficiaries and new applicants to complete and submit via drop boxes at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries and at the Multi-purpose Centre for processing to commence.
“For new applicants, supporting documents will be required before submitting the application form. However, for existing beneficiaries, only the completed form will be necessary. We have asked for the principals of all schools to submit promotion lists that we will use on our data system just to verify information,” she noted.
Uniform vouchers will be distributed on specific days by surnames to avoid crowding at the SUGP location. The days will be made available shortly. On arrival at the Multi-Purpose Centre, McKenzie-James said persons will be accommodated on the outside, eliminating contact with data clerks. She addedcustomer service agents will accommodate members of the public under tents while the process is completed.
According to the SUGP supervisor, the vouchers will be for one pair of regular uniform and can be redeemedat vendors that were approved by the Ministry of Education. “We have our returning vendors that most of our parents know and this year we are also pleased to have new additions. They have requested we still print our brochures detailing their locations. Each of our vendors will have a certificate posted in their business to say they are registered under the School Uniform Grant programme (SUGP) for 2021,”Mckenzie-James pointed out.
The 2021 SUGP comes to a close on 27th August, 2021.
