Over 11,000 vouchers have been issued by the School Uniform Grant Programme since it began on July 3, 2024.

Supervisor Tanesha McKenzie-James expects this number to rise significantly with five weeks remaining in the distribution period. The Perry Bay location anticipates a steady influx of visitors post-carnival.

In its 19th year, the SUGP is one of the government’s largest social initiatives, providing eligible students with complete uniforms for the new school year in September.

McKenzie-James noted the programme’s satisfactory operation but highlighted delays due to parents presenting expired IDs. She urged parents to bring valid identification and ensure school transfer processes are completed before accessing the programme.

Parents have praised the excellent customer service, sharing positive experiences on social media.

The 2024 programme will conclude on August 31, with last year’s distribution exceeding 21,000 vouchers.

You know the easiest thing to do is spend money. Especially money you do not have. Yes the UPP was good in spending money. And that is why they bankrupt the country and had to turn to the IMF for help. And I’m not suggesting at all that the needy should not be given a helping hand. But to have a program with out having some sort of qualification as to who should receive this, is ludicrous. And the BLP continue this because of fear of the political backlash. But as the saying goes, there is nothing called a free lunch. Someone has to pay the bill
