School Uniform Grant Programme Deadline Approaches

1

Since launching on July 8th, nearly 20,000 vouchers have been issued through the National School Uniform Grant Programme.

Parents are urged to complete their applications before the program closes on August 30th.

The grant provides at least one uniform per child for the upcoming school year.

Supervisor Tanisha McKenzie-James noted that some parents have faced issues with expired IDs and advised ensuring ID validity before visiting the Multi-Purpose Center.

The application process is quick, taking about ten minutes total. With the new school year approaching, parents are encouraged to utilize this program to prepare their children.

  1. Social programs without any form of “means testing”, are to me a waste of our tax payers’ monies. And government resources are already scares. At least set some qualification standards. The only place I agree should not have means testing is School Books, paid for by Education Levy. The reason for that is, that everyone is contributing to Education Levy according to their income. So high income earners pay more than low income earners. But school uniform is paid from the consolidated funds. And the government should therefore be prudent as to how they spend our taxes. Based on one’s income they should be given vouchers and not everyone the same amount. Let us say you get in total 4 vouchers per school year. Someone in the lowest income range could get all 4 vouchers while someone in a higher income range would get only 1 voucher.
I have also indicate this wasteful spending of monies at the PDV Carib Office. Every pensioners of the social security is entitle to a utility voucher book of 6 voucher of $100.00. I for one do not have need of such a voucher. I do not lack funds. Therefore I will not sign up for that program. But I know many that are financially well off like me that have signed up. This is such a waste of money. I have spoken to Baldwin Spencer about if when he was the PM and I have spoken to Gaston. But no one wants to rock the boat. Politicians are always thinking of votes. Politics. That is why they do not make rational decisions. It’s like they say,” How it go look”. And then you have the People’s Benefits Program that gives participants a debit card which is loaded every month with $215.00. The criteria is you have to be disabled or your household income is less then $800.00.
Lets say the $800.00 is a reasonable income from which to start. But the criteria “disable” is so wide. The president of the disability association is disabled. Mr. Warner. But he has a fulltime job. Earning a good income and driving a van. Disability is not a criteria that affects his ability to ear a living wage. Why therefore should he get a debit card with $215 each month? This is so wrong and just wasting our monies. Because in the end it is not free money. We need to pay back Venezuela for the monies we owe them.
The PM needs to have the balls to stop wasting our money and don’t think of the politics. Everything should have some means testing and needs to make sense. Yes a nation should have social programs to help the least of us. But the people in charge need to guard against abuse and misuse of the funds.
