Saturday Works Advance Infrastructure Projects Across Antigua
The Ministry of Works says crews were active in several communities on Saturday as part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
In Lightfoot, workers continued construction on resilient concrete roads, while other teams carried out projects in Cooks and at Bolans Playfield.
Work also progressed at the Old Holberton Hospital site, where construction is under way on the country’s new Renal Centre. The facility is expected to expand access to specialised kidney care for residents and patients from across the region.

Director of PWD I believe you have the ability and drive to bring back Antigua roads, which I must say are in a deplorable state. However, you need to use your resources properly. Stop the bleeding, especially by the equipment hired by the government from private contractors and are getting paid without performing. Don’t continue that road of yours predecessors. You have a bunch of equipment getting fuel from the ministry of works and leave to do other side jobs with the government fuel and still getting paid. Others parked up for days without doing anything and still getting paid. If you don’t do well in this job , the same people are going to pull you down.
So the first and foremost thing you must look into is accountability. Ask your PS to assist you in this area . Get the head of your accounting to get out there and do some spot checks. As the guy responsible for equipment to go out there in the government vehicles and ensure you are getting value for money.
You have a few foreigners with heavy duty equipment/ namely trucks. These guys are running circles around your system. Filling up with fuel almost on a daily basis. Then go home emptying out in containers and using it to do other jobs. Check out your fuel consumption.
Tighten up on your project equipment supervisor. For a couple hundred dollars they are bleeding the system hundreds of thousands to millions annually.
So while you concentrate on the road construction, please please ensure that those that are responsible for equipment, fuel, signing invoices are held accountable.
