‘Sassy’ In Trinidad For Medical Assistance

The family of Ava Sassy McKenize announced over the weekend that the radio personality and entertainer received government assistance to seek medical care in Trinidad and Tobago.

In a statment, the family extended profound gratitude to Minister of Health Molwyn Joseph, Medical Benefits Scheme and the government of Antigua and Barbuda “for the kind financial and administrative assistance offered to transfer our loved one from MSJMC to a medical facility in Trinidad where she is receiving the specialist care required and which is not available in Antigua.”

The well-known calypsonian was placed in a coma last week as she suffered from multiple organ failures.

Sassy’s family said a “special thanks as well to the nurses and doctors at MSJMC for the care and treatment provided, and to the many people who have given financial donations and who continue to hold Sassy in thoughts and prayers.”

Sassy left Antigua on Sunday and the family promised to keep friends and well-wishers updated on her progress.

  1. Well I guess the usual haters have nothing to say. Cause again it shows that this government has a heart. No matter who it is, when it comes to assisting someone to get medical attention overseas they will bend over backwards to assist. And many will remember the UPP era when people had to do their own fundraising if they needed medical help overseas.
Thank you Mr. Joseph for once again showing you are a true champion of healthcare for the less fortunate ones. From day one you demonstrated this when you flew te young lady that was burnt to Guadeloupe and to France ultimately for very expensive care.

    • Sidelines:It is taxpayers like me whose money was paid to help all of those worthy citizens.Molwyn Joseph did not spend one cent of his funds. So there is no need to sing his praises. While you are doing so perhaps you should bow and kiss his ring.

      • Silly you. Government’s money is in many cases taxpayers money. Cause it is mostly through taxation that government earns revenues. But as you know there is a category called Non-Tax Revenue. So your statement is not 100% correct. Furthermore the minister has the discretion how to spend he monies. Why is it then that in the UPP time almost no monies were available for medical assistance overseas. Only when their own minister Jacqui Quin- Leandro needed assistance. Then suddenly they were able to find the money. But for a sick baby from the then PM constituency that need surgery in Barbados they could not find the money for. The people had to do fund raising for that to happen. Those actions from the UPP were heartbreaking and very sad to say it mildly. This government makes it its priority when it come to someones life to find the money. Look the baby that was assisted to go to the USA for surgery. And just the other day the one baby that went to Cuba. But you guys sound like the ungrateful Barbudans. Never to acknowledge and say thank you to those who have come to your assistant in your time of need.

  2. During the UPP time, they would be selling Fried Chicken and Fish on weekend’s until it’s too late..
