Samantha May-Francis and Dalmer Ashton McCoy Sworn in at Government House

During a ceremony held at Government House this morning, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, presided over the swearing-in of Ms. Samantha May-Francis as the Interim President of the Industrial Court and Mr. Dalmer Ashton McCoy as a re-appointed member of the Court. The event marked a significant moment in the Court’s ongoing efforts to mediate and resolve industrial disputes within the nation.

Ms. May-Francis, who previously served as Vice President, steps into her interim role equipped with extensive experience and a dedication to the Court’s mission. Addressing those gathered, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams praised her commitment, noting her “clear commitment to upholding the standards and responsibilities of the Court.” He emphasized her role in ensuring the institution’s continuity and the fair resolution of labor issues that affect employees, employers, and the broader community.

The Industrial Court, tasked with managing industrial relations and enforcing labor laws, plays a vital role in maintaining a balanced and productive work environment throughout Antigua and Barbuda. The Court’s work, which often involves navigating intricate labor issues, is essential to fostering harmonious relations across various sectors.

Mr. McCoy, who brings a wealth of experience in negotiations, mediation, and insurance, returns to the Court with a solid track record of leadership and involvement in local organizations. His experience, Sir Rodney stated, is “a valuable asset that will enrich the Court’s perspective and broaden its reach.”

In his closing remarks, the Governor General expressed confidence that the expertise and dedication of both Ms. May-Francis and Mr. McCoy would further strengthen the Court’s commitment to fair labor practices. “Together, may your combined expertise and dedication strengthen the Industrial Court’s mission to support fair labor practices and foster harmonious relationships across all sectors of our society,” he said.

The appointments of Ms. May-Francis and Mr. McCoy underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring that the Industrial Court remains a cornerstone of stability in industrial relations across the nation.
