Saharan Dust Alert

Air quality in Antigua and Barbuda has fallen to moderate levels as a new plume of Saharan dust drifts across the region.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service said the index for fine and coarse particles (PM2.5 and PM10) stood between 51 and 70 on Saturday morning. The agency issued a Pollution Alert Level II, marking the 20th notable dust surge of 2025.

Officials said conditions are generally acceptable for most people, but warned that sensitive groups – including asthmatics, the elderly, children and those with heart or respiratory conditions – could experience mild health effects.

They advised children and adults with respiratory problems to avoid prolonged outdoor exertion while the dust persists.
