Ruez Claims Third Straight UWI Junior Calypso Monarch Title

Ruez Titre, performing as ‘Ruez’, secured his third consecutive UWI Five Islands Campus Junior Calypso Monarch crown in the 13–19 age category, triumphing once again at the Antigua Recreation Grounds.

The 2025 win adds to titles earned in 2023 and 2024. Ruez topped a field of 12 competitors and took home $2,100, along with awards for Best Stage Performer and Most Helpful Calypsonian.

Lena Mills, ‘Calypso Lilly’, placed second, earning $1,800 and Most Improved Calypsonian, while third went to Kalique Alleyne, ‘Kaiso Kal’, who also received Best New Artiste and $1,500. Mandela Ango Anyandjuh, ‘De Boss’, was recognised for punctuality.

In the 5–12 category, Jaedah Baird, ‘Sweet Melody’, dethroned Princess Faith with her performance of “It’s Not Everyday”. Baird won $2,100 and awards for Best Stage Performer and Best New Artiste.

Tarique Benjamin, ‘De Archer’, placed second with “Education” and was named Most Improved, while Faith Edwards, ‘Princess Faith’, came third with “My Calypso”. Both received $1,800 and $1,500 respectively.

Other honours included the Leadership Award to Shemon Martin, ‘Red Juice’, and Most Improved to Brijae Williamson, ‘Queen B’. Eleven calypsonians competed in each category, with all participants receiving tokens of appreciation.

  3. It’s not about the money, but they should’ve at least round it off to 4,000 3,000 and 2,000. For a first timer the young (Sweet Melody) was a natural, who is loaded with talent that deserves a now and I mean a right now investment.
    Yes we had two age categories but Jaedah was so good that she could claim overall winner and did you listened her speech about taking voice lessons very important, with plans of writing her own song next year? Most importantly her family seems to have her musical back.
