Royal Caribbean Still Interested in Fort James Project as Government Weighs Local Development Option

The government of Antigua and Barbuda is continuing discussions over the proposed Royal Caribbean development at Fort James, with officials confirming that the cruise line remains interested in pursuing the long-awaited tourism project.

Tourism Minister Charles ‘Max’ Fernandez revealed that Royal Caribbean has expressed ongoing interest but is now seeking a partner to help carry the investment forward.

“We met with Royal Caribbean a couple of months ago in Florida, and they indicated they are still interested,” Fernandez said.

“They are looking for a cruise partner to move the project ahead.”

The Fort James proposal, which predates the COVID-19 pandemic, was initially seen as a major investment opportunity that would enhance Antigua’s cruise infrastructure and beach tourism offering. However, the global shutdown in cruise operations stalled progress.

Fernandez noted that, in the meantime, the Cabinet is also exploring the possibility of developing the site through local investment. A decision on the way forward is expected within the coming months.

The Minister’s comments come amid a broader push to strengthen Antigua’s position in the regional cruise market, with several infrastructure projects — including the new upland development and expanded port facilities — set to come online by the end of the year.

  1. So wah happen to all di fanfare last year? Royal Caribbean still ‘interested’ but nothing ain’t start?

  2. Max a begging you please to stop trying to make us fools. Leave that idea alone with RC. You know well the government is not transparent and RC wants the same deal as in Haiti, Bahamas and others where they will own the island. You must be working out a deal to use the property for your labor day celebrations.

  3. This administration should be re-named the give away administration, dem jus think about give away everything to outsiders

  4. So if you have something to sell/offer RC, why are you spending tax money going to sit with these people?

This is how dumb this government is..let the people spend their own money if they are really interested to come at sit right here in Antigua jokers.

Like I always said about this administration..they do not one damn but of negotiation skill at all..they just love to just strike deals like they are big shots, but these deals do nothing to benefit Antiguan’s, just foreigners living high on the hog from the backs of Antiguan’s.

Everything is not to be sold you fools, but if you are selling it,make it worthwhile for the little Antiguan people nah..smdh.
