SOURCE: NewsCO- Roshane Adams has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for assaulting and attempting to rob an 82-year-old tailor, Steve Lovence, with a cutlass.
The 25-year-old was charged with aggravated assault with intent to rob following the incident that occurred in September 2022.
On September 19, 2022, Lovence was at his New Street shop around 4 pm when Adams approached him and asked to make a phone call.
Lovence kindly allowed it, but Adams left the shop after making the call. Later that evening, Adams returned with an accomplice known only as “Sponge Bob,” who inquired about the cost of adjusting a pair of pants. Lovence explained he needed to see the pants first to give a price.
The situation escalated when Adams’ accomplice brought out a dark object from his backpack and ordered Lovence to stay still.
At the same time, Adams brandished a cutlass from his waistband and began searching Lovence’s pockets while demanding money. Although Lovence told Adams he had no money, Adams struck him on the left side of his torso with the cutlass
Despite repeated demands for cash, Lovence maintained he was broke. Eventually, Adams put the cutlass back in his waistband, and both men fled the scene, leaving behind the accomplice’s backpack.
Facing a maximum sentence of 60 months, Adams received a 12-month deduction for having no prior convictions and an additional 16 months off for his early guilty plea. His total sentence will be further shortened by the time he has already spent in custody.

In the convoluted mathematical machinations used by the magistrate to arrive at the final sentence, he/she should have added on an additional ten (10) years given the fact the victim was 82 YEARS OLD!!!!
