Students from across the island of Antigua and Barbuda stand to benefit from 20 full scholarships which the Government of Romania will make available for the 2018 – 2019 academic year.
A two-member delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, headed by Ambassador at Large Her Excellency Daniela Gitman, visited the island on Thursday to promote Romania’s candidacy to the United Nation’s Security Council for the 2020-2021 mandate, and met with Prime Minister of Gaston Browne.
In addressing Prime Minister Browne, Her Excellency disclosed that the government of Romania is formulating a memorandum that would offer 10 full scholarships in the field of medicine and a further 10 in the social sciences discipline to qualified Antiguans and Barbudans. The Ambassador pointed out that all programmes will be instructed in English.
The Prime Minister in his remarks to the delegation expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Government of Romania noting that the memorandum is a valuable investment to the nation’s human resource.
Prime Minister Browne also affirmed his government’s support for Romania’s candidacy and further underscored Antigua’s willingness to work together with the Romanian Government to strengthen our political, economic, cultural and people-to-people relations.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism, Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Honourable Charles Fernandez.
