PM Browne: Road Repairs to Begin Within Days as First $10M Loan Tranche Nears Release
Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that road rehabilitation works are set to intensify within days, as the government prepares to access the first $10 million from a $100 million road repair loan.
Speaking during an interview on ABS, Browne said the funds are expected “within a matter of probably days, no more than a week,” allowing for the immediate start of road upgrades.
“There will be a significant expansion in the amount of work that we do on our roads, especially the secondary roads,” he stated, noting that while major progress had been made on primary routes, focus will now shift to All Saints Road and various community roads.
Browne acknowledged the scale of the challenge, calling the $100 million allocation “small compared to the amount of work that needs to be done,” and indicated plans to raise further funds to sustain roadworks over the medium term.
