Water, Roads, and Construction: Browne Highlights Infrastructure Gains

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has provided an update on major infrastructure projects across Antigua and Barbuda, pointing to steady improvements in roadworks and water delivery, along with a visible surge in construction activity nationwide.

Speaking on his Browne and Browne radio show, the Prime Minister revealed that the government has secured $100 million in funding for additional roadworks, with a particular focus on secondary and community roads.

“In the next six to twelve months, we expect to see a significant improvement in road conditions across the country,” he said.

Turning to the long-standing water supply issue, Browne said the government continues to expand water infrastructure and is on track to provide consistent 24-hour access to most areas by September 2025. He noted that his administration has invested more in water production and distribution than any other in the country’s history.

“We have greater capacity now than ever before,” Browne said. “It’s still a challenge, but we’re making real progress.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted a rise in private construction, describing it as a positive sign of economic confidence. “Everywhere you look, there’s building going on—homes, businesses, infrastructure. That tells a story of growth,” he added.

Browne said infrastructure development remains central to his government’s economic agenda and a key driver of job creation and long-term resilience.

  1. @gaston: wait isn’t it his wife the minister of public road that should be making such pronouncements? But anyway Gaston in so much hot water with the American court and potential family assets seizure that he had to incentivize the populace with sweet sounding poems.

  2. If PM Gaston is serious about improving road conditions as promised, we could be looking at a surge in financial activity and foreign investment over the next 6 to 12 months. I came across a report on https://ovza.com that highlights a strong connection between road infrastructure in Caribbean nations and the amount of foreign capital they attract. Excited to see how this unfolds.

  3. The campaing is kicking up.
    Elections is around the corner.
This government works in the people’s interest when they want a vote only.
Have we forgotten what happened in the Bolans leading up to the by-elections?
Have we forgotten what happened in thenParham by-election?
Are we waiting to feel what happened to the othe constituencies to act in our best interst?
My popple, the road works are just like a bribe.
    The country is shamefully broke.
The government doesn’t have money to do any infrastructural works.
So when you see government workers and machinery in your constituency know that it is a farce intended to brainwash you.
Don’t forget that former minister Lennox Weston told us that labour parrt giverbments work only on the back end of their term.
By this he meant that they do work just before an elections to fool the people and get their vote.
    This is one such case.
The road works are vote catching work.
    Don’t be fooled.
Ask this government to show you where you r tax dollars and gone to.
If they cannot give proper accounting as in the case of Alfa Nero tell them to take their hands out of your pocket.
Wether they show you or not get rid of all of then.

  4. @Shooter.

Maybe that’s why Antiguan’s should call for elections every two years, like how they do it for state representatives in the US.. 😂. Maybe that way more will get done, regardless of who is in power.

I’m for the people always, so no matter by whom this get done for the people, I’m all for it.

In ten years, all this man has done is what, nothing! What a shame.

Patching up a few pot holes is nothing to brag about Gatson..the holes shouldn’t be there in the first place. You had enough money coming in ( according to you) to hire decent engineers, but you failed, and now you talking about roads would improve by next year…yeah right.

This government is just a reactive government, not a proactive one. Creatures of their own dirty habits!

  5. @Eldread. Oh gash jack, a wah Gassy can do you so? Whether his wife is the Minister or not for Ministry of Works, he’s the leader of the country. A wah now, he can’t talk or he mustn’t talk.
