SOURCE: CARISTATS- There has been a noticeable peak in the interest and use of AI-oriented platforms. One of the most common is OpenAI’s natural language interface ‘ChatGPT‘.
Global statistics show that in the month of May, ChatGPT received over 5 billion visits. There were a total of 398 million unique visitors, and 74% of those are repeat and consistent visitors.

In the Caribbean, we do see a growing interest in the platform. On social media, many refer to ChatGPT as ‘their trusted therapist’ or personal virtual assistant.
NP’s Digital platform, generated using Google search data, indicates that in the month of May 2025, over 1.2 million searches were made for ChatGPT in the CARICOM region.
The majority of interest is seen in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, and Guyana. Montserrat records the lowest number of searches for the term, as this country is the least populous in all of CARICOM.
What does this then mean for the region? As internet infrastructure improves, AI platforms may become increasingly important for how the region accesses information and solves problems.
