Four executive members of the United Progressive Party (UPP) have resigned due to issues with the treatment of youth members.
The resignations include former chair Guishone Powell, current chair Lexianne Powell, vice chair Chelsea Agard, and secretary Sherry-Ann Cornelious.
Youth members felt unwanted, disrespected, and saw no growth opportunities.
They were also removed from UPP chat groups for congratulating Hon. Anthony Smith, stressing that supporting someone outside the party should not result in severe actions.
Despite their grievances, they expressed gratitude for their time in the UPP and wished the party well, indicating a period of turmoil and introspection within the party.

It shows that the UPP have some serious internal issues that must be highlighted and addressed. The speed at which these issues are always brought into the public spotlight leaves a lot to be desired. Never seen a party that like to wash their dirty laundry in public like them.

There is definitely a campaign afoot to destabilise all strands of the party by underhand political motives, so that the ABLP can run Antigua & Barbuda without a VIABLE opposition party.
Here are 5 positives:
1. A cleansing of the driftwood and weak hearts isn’t such a bad thing
2. UPP must now recognise that there’s an infiltration to destabilise
3. Forewarned is being forearmed
4. Gaston Browne and the ABLP wants a dictatorship. Never!!!
5. If UPP do hit rock-bottom as the ABLP acolytes, Gastonites and sycophants wants; thankfully there’ll be enough time to resolve and win the next General Election in 2028.

There could be many things said about the resignation of The Fab Four. However, as a youth myself on the same executive, I have to speak out. I cannot and will not allow these four individuals tarnish the reputation of my party or the Progressive Youths.
How could you guys say that the party never opened opportunities for you. We aren’t in power so we are limited to resources. Did you expect the party to go contrary to its beliefs and ideals and sell their souls to the highest bidder just satisfy your needs.
Here this, and listen well, the Powells jolly well know that they were and still are in the Pocket of a certain recently independent MP. Don’t pretend or the recordings will start to surface.
They jolly well know that they chastised the PL behind his back for not making them senators after the last election.. Whatever became of the Maxim, take your time and walk fast?
I’ve sat through meetings that they spoke disparagingly about the UPP because they weren’t getting their way. The chair often brought her husband… WHO IS NOT A MEMBER OF THE YOUTH FORUM.. , to take over the meetings. Again, the recordings might very well surface.
I know the PL overextended his hand to keep an open door of communication. They NEVER accepted it. They refused to hold regular meetings and when they did meet it was just to speak negatively of the party.
Whenever the Youth chair went to Executive meeting( VERY INFREQUENT), she sits cute and say nothing, just like the backstabber from All Saints West
So the departure of the four especially the Powells is not a surprise…
The Fab four, rest assured that the Progressive Youths, like the UPP, will continue to forge ahead continuing to put people first and providing opportunities for the development of the youth.
This too shall pass. Good will always triumph over evil. People come and go but the true Patriots will remain true to the institution/political party called the UPP

UPP is not in power and has nothing to offer. What growth opportunities are they seeking- gimme a breakfast! And how dare they supporting Anthony with his treachery!!!

I have arrived at the conclusion that BRIXTONIAN, CHARLES TABOR and many others want to see the UPP VANISHED . I’m simply here watching the soap opera as new details unfold. If it is that you guys choose to blame and chastise others for leaving, you are not learning anything in politics about your present conundrum.
The UPP is in crisis mode, but many are failing to acknowledge that issue. If it is that members are leaving or defecting, using the same hymn sheet, and the members who remain are unwilling to chart a different course, then you cannot blame the ABLP for being skillful by using their evangelism to welcome new members.
After all, they are Antiguans and Barbudans who, if able to serve, should be given an opportunity to do so as prodigal members.
Dr. Cleon resigned using the same hymn sheet, but didn’t choose to align herself with the ABLP. So, is she a traitor as well?
The ABLP is about building a strong institution, a strong party, strong nation, a strong country to facilitate an economic powerhouse.
Say what you wish about Lady Joanne Massiah, but one thing that I’ve noticed about her response after someone leaves her newly formed party, she always publicly wish them well with no bashing. Now, that’s class.
There will be more exits to come, if the UPP party is unable to wish people well and do some introspection from every angle.
When students are all failing, the teacher is the problem.
