Antigua and Barbuda’s Royal Police Force reported around 3080 criminal cases, averaging seven to eight daily incidents.

Superintendent Lisborn Michael, second in command at the Criminal Investigation Department, outlined specific crime categories, including break-ins, larcenies, woundings, malicious damage, unlawful sexual intercourse, shooting incidents, and robberies.

Communities like Villa, Point, Cashew Hill, and Grays Farm are experiencing a notable surge in break-ins almost daily.

The issue of unlicensed firearms, with almost 40 weapons reported stolen by licensed owners, remains a significant concern.

Superintendent Michael emphasized the distressing impact of illegal firearm use on young people, citing instances where individuals did not survive past the age of 20.

In addition to these challenges, there is growing apprehension about transnational crimes, including money laundering, human smuggling, firearms trafficking, cybercrime, and illegal substances.

Despite concerns, law enforcement achieved success with 797 arrests recorded this year, showcasing the Royal Police Force’s commitment to addressing and mitigating the diverse criminal challenges in Antigua and Barbuda.
