ST. VINCENT-Parents of former model in court on attempted murder charge

The parents of the former model, Yugge Farrell, who is charged with using abusive language to the wife of a senior government minister, appeared in court Tuesday charged with attempted murder and arson.

Gailene Farrell and her common-law husband, Calvert Charles, are charged with the November 1, 2017 attempted murder of fellow Lowmans Bay resident, Edward Durrant. They are also charged with arson in connection with a fire at the man’s home on the same day.

The prosecution alleges that the couple lit the house on fire and chopped him as he attempted to escape.

But when the matter was called on Tuesday, Senior Prosecutor Adolphus Delplesche said that he is yet to receive the file from the investigator and sought an adjournment to March 26.

Farrell came to national attention on January 5 when she appeared in court to answer a charge that the previous day she used abusive language at Karen Duncan Gonsalves, the wife of Finance Minister Camillo Gonsalves.

The court then ordered that she be sent to a psychiatric hospital and after a three-week stay was granted EC$1,000 (One EC dollar=US$0.37 cents) bail.

The former model, who has since claimed that she was in an extra-marital relationship with the finance minister, will return to court on December 17.

  1. How can a judge order a person get psychiatric hospital? Is that judge a qualified psychiatrist? Why was the lady given bail from a hospital? Is she sick or charged with a crime? What really is the charge this lady is facing?

I can see only corruption in this whole event. The court and the judge appears to be politically influenced. When these things can take place in this system, how do the leaders expect us to buy the CCJ kangaroo they are selling?

I wonder if this involved someone other than a politician named Gonsalves what would be the outcome.

BAM!!! That is the crux of the matter! Say no to the CCJ!! Justice for Yugge Farrell.

    • The relevant political parties were apparently in the media saying they wanted a “mental health outcome”.

It would appear to be a travesty if someone is locked up as an in-patient and medicated unnecessarily. It is a drastic step to forcibly detain someone, and really should only be in limited circumstances of imminent danger.
Any assessment could quite likely have taken place as an out patient. It does not even seem as if there is an actual psychiatrist on island either.
Can you imagine being detained at Clarevue for 3 weeks over calling someone a b*tch??

This story, well not this one, Yugge’s really saddens me.

  2. Ralph Gonsalves ought to minding his business in his own backyard instead of acting like he is the PM for the entire Caribbean. It’s no secret he is a “skirt chaser” and even publicly admitted to weakness for the vagina
