Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has hinted at a reshuffle of his Cabinet even as he acknowledged there would be “no wholesale changes here”.

Chastanet, who returned here on Tuesday from Haiti, where he attended the 29th Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Inter-Sessional Summit, told reporters that “there are some ministries that we found there was not the synergy that we needed.

“For instance in the area of energy, maintenance of our schools and also in terms of my own ministry, public service is coming on as a huge project. So I will make those announcements in due time,” he added.

In addition to being prime minister, Chastanet also holds the portfolios of Finance, Economic Growth, Job Creation, External Affairs and the Public Service.

But he told reporters that the pending Cabinet changes should not be viewed as his dissatisfaction with the performance of his ministers.

“This is not that I am dissatisfied with anybody’s performance. I am not cutting anybody from my Cabinet. I have made that very, very clear,’ Chastanet said, adding that it is merely a ‘realignment’ to strengthen the execution of the government’s work programme.

“It is something that we will be doing, hopefully soon,’ said, hinting that it may coincide with the presentation of the national budget next month.

“I think that is a pretty good timeline to assume that some announcements will be made,’ he said.

Chastanet led the United Workers Party (UWP) to victory in 2016.
