The Rotary Club of Antigua recently made a donation to the School for the Deaf, which will aid in building the capacity of the educators at the academic institution.

The contribution also forms part of activities in recognition of the month of September as Basic Education and Literacy Month.

The Club’s President, Michael Spencer, presented a cheque in the sum of Seven thousand five hundred and ninety-six dollars and forty-four cents ($EC 7596.44) to one of the school’s representatives Ms. Juliet Hazlewood at a presentation ceremony, which took place at Rotary House.

In making the donation, President Spencer, explained that the Club recognizes that the teachers continue to remain committed to providing quality education to the students despite challenges being faced.

“We are certainly very pleased with the work that the School for the Deaf is doing here in Antigua and Barbuda. We are happy to provide added support to encourage the teachers to continue to further their studies in Special Education”, he said.

Ms. Hazlewood accepted the cheque on behalf of the school’s Principal, Mrs. Diane Archibald. She noted that the contribution will assist in professional development courses in the areas of Child Psychology and Professional Child Care.

“On behalf of my Principal, Mrs. Archibald and the rest of the staff, we want to say thank you very much. This donation will certainly help to build capacity at the school”, she expressed.
