Rawdon Turner of the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has won the St Peter by-election, following a decisive vote count that concluded late on January 14, 2025.

Turner’s victory secures the seat for the ruling party in a closely watched election that drew national attention.

Turner, a local architect and businessman, campaigned on a platform of community development, economic revitalization, and infrastructure modernization. His connection to the constituency and his vision for its future resonated with voters, leading to a clear victory over his opponent, George Wehner of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

The by-election was contested vigorously, with Wehner focusing on issues of accountability and infrastructure challenges. Despite his loss, Wehner commended his supporters for their dedication and promised to continue advocating for the constituency.

Turner’s victory solidifies the ABLP’s presence in the constituency and in parliament, which was left vacant following the tragic murder of Asot Michael in late 2024.

Political analysts view this win as a boost for the ruling party and a sign of voter confidence in its governance.

The election results also reaffirm the democratic process in Antigua and Barbuda, with high voter turnout reflecting the engagement and commitment of the electorate.

As Turner prepares to take his seat in Parliament, residents of St Peter look forward to the implementation of his campaign promises and a new chapter of leadership for the constituency.
