Calls for cannabis reform echoed outside the St. John’s Police Station on Saturday as members of Antigua and Barbuda’s Rastafarian community staged a peaceful protest against the continued imprisonment of people for marijuana-related offences.
Wearing white and carrying Rastafarian flags, demonstrators urged authorities to take a different approach to minor cannabis offences, arguing that current enforcement practices are out of step with ongoing discussions about drug law reform.
Protesters said some individuals remain incarcerated for marijuana offences despite growing support across the Caribbean for decriminalization and greater recognition of cannabis’ religious and cultural significance within the Rastafarian faith.
The group also appealed for a review of existing laws, maintaining that imprisonment should not be the primary response to minor marijuana-related offences. Organizers described the demonstration as part of a broader campaign for legal reform and greater recognition of Rastafarian rights in Antigua and Barbuda.

And i thought that was already a thing of the past since the four trees and 15 grams of cannabis were decriminalized. I guess some officers just cannot stand the new paradigm shift. As if they have nothing else to do with their time. So many thieves on the lose and cases still unsolved. Smoking weed only hurt one self if that much. I couldn’t care less what a person does to him or herself. As long as it doesn’t effect another person’s right.

Are the persons in jail Rastafari? I don’t think so. Many of the persons caught with large amounts of drugs are not Rastafari but young men who want to ruin the lives of young people by selling drugs. The indiscriminate use of drugs among the youths of this country are very concerning. Rastafari probably don’t see the effects on society since they have decided withdraw to the hills. Kindly let the police do their jobs.
