Question of the Day: Should Term Limits Be Enforced for MPs?

7

Question of the Day:

Considering the recent discussion surrounding the political longevity of figures like Hon. Sir Robin Yearwood, what are your thoughts on implementing term limits for Members of Parliament? Do you believe that establishing a maximum duration for service could enhance democracy by promoting fresh perspectives and reducing the risks associated with long tenures in power?

  1. When will Pringle stop being a "baby daddy" and become a HUSBAND??? Ms. Reid don't let him fool you any longer!! When will Pringle stop being a "baby daddy" and become a HUSBAND??? Ms. Reid don't let him fool you any longer!!

Now that COOKS POND WATER done retire are you a ask this? He didn’t do shit for Rural West or the country, but served long donkey years until Lovell called him Tissue Paper PM. Then came John Ashe to expose the KICKBACK, GREED, BRIBERY and CORRUPTION wiht him and his UPP.

  2. I agree that there should be term limits, not just for MPs but for all high ranking government officials. No person should feel that these positions belong to them.

Especially when persons are past retirement age and are refusing to relinquish these positions or even more ridiculously are being offered contract renewal after contract renewal as if they alone are capable of doing the job in question. Younger talented people are left in a position where they will not get a chance to take up leadership roles until they too are old, washed up and hardened by the system.

  3. Term limits are NOT needed!!! When the people ready to get rid of you, they simply vote our ass out!!

  4. Nope, no term limits. If the people are performing, why give them term limits? We live in the Westminster system. We’re not the United States of America. People vote for whom they want a long as they want. It’s a democracy. Now, the guards are changing in St. Phillip North, and the change will still remain in the camp of the ABLP.
Bring impressive candidates to challenge the incumbent, and make that standard bearer of our election process. No term limits.

  5. YES! YES! YES!

A politician who functioned well in his time then is not the same one for these times now. They should leave before everybody starts to push them away.
Also when they stay too long they get so accustomed to the system it brings on corruption. Look at these we have now.

Very rarely the people want a politician to serve more than two terms. Obama is the exception and no amount of calling for him was going to bring him back. Besides, he had the decency to know it was time to leave, time up or not.

Many of our politicians now who had some measure of decency when they first started to serve end up losing their name, their values and end up being despised by the people, either because of their ineptness in the position, or their corrupt performance in office.

Some go in with good intentions but become corrupted by their peers or their leaders because they cannot or are afraid to raise objections to bad behavior in public office.

  6. Well some might argue that term limits will prevent corruption, but on the other hand, being asked to leave too soon might make some people less loyal or interested in doing a good job and perhaps even more corrupt if they feel they need to amass a fortune more quickly. So, I don’t know if that would make a difference. Just need people with good moral ideologies I guess.
