I agree with the implementation of the ban on smoking in public places. Just like cigarettes are not to be smoked in public places. Second hand smoke is bad for everyone.
Yes, its my constitutional right not inhale what someone else is smoking.
Smoking in public spaces, you asked. What are they smoking? There should be no smoking of any kind in public spaces, period.
Yes I support it. It should not be done in public to affect the health of others. Consider your 1 year old, 2 year old, your differently able child, wife, husband. Get a smoke house if you need where people can go and smoke. Don’t force it on others.
Smoking weed yes, caustic cigars yes, cigarettes ALL YES. HOWEVER, proper legislation is needed and not a drop on ban like how it was done
Smoking marijuana in public should not be allowed this should be done in the privacy of your home
BAN SMOKING who Bex dead, people need to breathe fresh air, let the idiots congregate by themselves and kill one another
Smoking of any kind in public places affects the none smoker more than the smoker itself. If I am smoking, I know my consequences. But the second hand person who may be quietly having a drink or dinner and and gets affected. Therefore, I agree with the Government to ban smoking in public places.
I support it 100%
2nd hand smoke us even more dangerous than smoking..
No I do not support it! I am NOT a smoker, never been, but I think that such a ban infringes on individual choices and autonomy. Such restrictions could harm our tourism and hospitality businesses by reducing patronage. While I support a ban on smoking in areas frequented by children (playgrounds & school grounds) etc, the broad brush at which this ban brushes is bound to hurt businesses. Can you imagine tourists coming off the crewships at Heritage Quay and “dying for a smoke” only to be told that they cannot light up in Heritage Quay. We have to create smoking areas at Heritage Quay, in restaurants, bars, lounges and other areas so as not to discriminate and infringe on smokers right to smoke but in a way where it doesn’t infringe on the rights of nonsmokers. This law is forcing people to smoke in house, in apartments and other buildings where it would do greater harm to other people. Funny enough, I am more bothered by the incense and smoke which is a normal part of worship for Catholics, Anglicans and others. I do not think that this no smoking thing was properly thought out at all.
@Audley Phillip…. You have just proven yourself to be a proper skunt.
I support the banning 100%
I fully support the smoking ban! I believe that protecting public health and the environment should take precedence over individual smoking choices. Such restrictions are necessary to safeguard the well-being of all, including tourists and locals alike, and will ultimately benefit our tourism and hospitality industries by creating cleaner, healthier spaces that attract more visitors.
A comprehensive ban on smoking in public areas, including places like Heritage Quay, is essential. Allowing designated smoking areas in restaurants, bars, and lounges only perpetuates the harm caused by secondhand smoke and complicates enforcement. It is better to have a clear, consistent policy that protects nonsmokers from exposure everywhere.
Contrary to concerns about forcing smokers indoors, this law encourages smokers to quit or reduce smoking, which is a positive outcome for public health. The inconvenience is minor compared to the benefits of reducing smoking-related illnesses and protecting vulnerable populations.
Regarding incense and smoke from religious practices, these are culturally significant and generally less harmful in terms of public health impact compared to tobacco smoke. The smoking ban is specifically targeted at tobacco use due to its proven health risks.
Overall, this smoking ban is a well-considered and necessary step to improve the quality of life for everyone in the community.
Everyone on here are idiots, but the one Mr Phillips…and I’m not a smoker of any kind.
Pure idiots.
And I don’t need to explain my position, because it will go straight over these idiots head, straight over..fuif!
@Audley Phillip You are 100% correct. People come up with these measures but really don’t think through the practical consequences, particularly the knock on effects on the tourist industry. I’m not a smoker myself and do no enjoy inhaling second hand smoke, However, it’s one thing to ban tobacco smoking in bars, restaurants, shops or even city streets, while restricting it designated smoking areas. However, it’s another thing to ban smoking in the open air entirely. I look forward to the pushback when the first tourists are arrested on the beach for having a cigarette. The police need to busy themselves with solving crimes and illegal drug use, which they are not currently very good at, not virtue signalling nonsense. It is low hanging fruit.
Everybody here is crying about the dangers of second hand smoke and has full right to do so but the facts are facts. Every year young people and old DIE from ALCOHOL especially around carnival. We have VEHICULAR accidents where people get seriously injured and in some cases lose their life due to being heavily intoxicated. Everyday you go to the market side by 8am the drunkards are all in town drunk as a skunk. This is the behavior you allow your children to see instead of speaking up about public intoxication or trying to ban alcohol. I also read that there was young people found gambling, are we going to ban casinos to? because it seems like their is a parenting and policing issue with Antigua and Barbuda.
PEOPLE: I DON’T WANT TO INHALE WEED SMOKE…..THE IDIOTS ALWAYS SPECIFY WEED SMOKE LOL…..THE SAME IDIOTS EVERYDAY 365 INHALE ALL THE EVER GROWING POLLUTION OF CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) RELEASED BY VEHICLE AND JET AIRCRAFT EXHAUST LMAO…THE SAME IDIOTS WHO STAND AROUND A GRILLE EVERY WEEKEND DOWN WEST BUS STATION LMAO….THE SAME IDIOTS WHO WOULD WALK PAST LAWYERS AT HIGH COURT SMOKING CIGARETTES OUTSIDE AND SEE NO PROBLEM…..THE SAME IDIOTS WHO GO SYRIANS TO BY SHEWARMA AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SYRIAN MAN SMOKING CIGARETTES OUTSIDE……IT’S WEED THEY HATE U CAN READ THE COMMENTS WEED…NO ONE SHOULD BE WALKING AND SMOKING ANYTHING IN ST. PS I STILL SEE THE SYRIANS OUTSIDE THEIR BUSINESS SMOKING CIGARETTES……THIS IS GONNA CAUSE A PROBLEM FOR A CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE IN SOCIETY WHO ENJOY THEIR CIGARETTES AND CIGARS AT WILL AND IF IT IS NOTICED THE POLICE ARE AFRAID TO BOTHER THOSE INDIVIDUALS DUE TO FEAR OF REVENGE THAT WILL BE AN ISSUE…..CONSTABLE WHO?? I agree with it. We as a public should not be subjected to second hand smoke.
Smoke of any kind is not good for your lungs.Second hand smoke has been proven to cause serious illnesses like CANCER to non smokers. The Administration did screw up.When the weed smoking legislation was introduced. It was very vage and very shallow.4 trees and 14ounces were all the talking points. There were no places not to smoke it.There in lies the problems we face today.
