Residents are being urged to verify the identification of census enumerators following reports of individuals posing as officials to gain access to private properties.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the Statistics Division and Census Secretariat have been alerted to instances of impostors attempting to collect information under false pretenses.
He assured the public that legitimate enumerators are clearly identified and wear official blazers and badges issued by the government. “They will be properly identified with blazers and other identification that will ensure you know you are letting authorized enumerators onto your premises,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-briefing session.
He encouraged citizens to exercise vigilance and to contact the relevant authorities if they have any doubts about the authenticity of an enumerator.
The appeal comes as the 2025 Census continues across Antigua and Barbuda, with more than 400 enumerators deployed to collect data vital for national planning and development.
