Private School Asks Parents To Pay Fees To Help Keep Teachers Employed

14

The privately owned St John’s Catholic Primary School (SJCPS) on Tuesday said it has been urging parents to pay outstanding school fees as it grapples with the challenging of paying teachers during the summer months.

Although the decision to lay off teacher during the summer months has reportedly been rescinded the school says its main source of income is from the payment of school fees.

It said in a communique yesterday that because of covid-19 the school  discounted the tuition fee with the further intention that the timely payment of school fees would allow the school to meet its financial obligations.

“Unfortunately, the school was faced with an unprecedented situation where 80 percent of fees remain outstanding even after several attempts have been made to recoup the funds from parents … therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to appeal to parents/guardians of SJCPS with outstanding fees to contact the school and make the necessary arrangements to settle all outstanding term fees at the earliest convenience.”

Earlier the school announced plans to lay off staff in a phased approach but has since then had a change of heart.

  1. Y’all are a international based organisation all around the world and there no help from the Catholic organisation on this. All them money the ppl of the world have pump into the Catholic churches, now one of it many school need help there is none from them

  2. Looks like 1810 to 1851 all over again. At least black parents are a little off today. The world is really a cycle.
To even think of laying off teachers is shameful. Hope the color of the children did play a part in the decision as what happened in the past.

  3. “The more optimistic further viewed religious education not only as the agency of submission, but as a vital factor in the eventual transformation of the blacks into a grateful and hardworking peasantry.”

  4. Guys, this is how it works… money is paid for product or services rendered. If they sat the classes, the teachers worked/taught said classes, and the school fee was not paid, the school has a right to ask for it. Why tell them to go beg somewhere else?? And it is a fact that some parents(who mind you have no idea who their kids are or what they are doing daily in school) are behind on payments PRIOR TO covid…. But best believe if Carnival 2020 was still a go, some of the same parents would very well find the money to go wink up inna Myst…. and come September dont have money to pay for their child education. We must do better.

  5. This is a situation beyond the control of all concerned.

This situation requires fresh free money from a benefactor.

The Vatican is the second wealthiest entity in the world. The church must ask for financial support not only for the school but also to restore the first catholic temple that is now a sore eye on one of our busiest roads.

  6. All private schools should have an emergency payment plan in the future if this is not yet in place. Oh gosh man a wah de teachers and dem and family members fu nyam! On the other hand, if some parenrs are not presently working how are those school fees going to be paid? The management can shout with the loudest voice, “please pay your school fees.” Will that shout ensure that the fees will be paid?

    • The children are home. Yes the teachers are sending them work. But that is not the same as teaching them in school. The School should get some form of payment but not the entire amount. Because many parents work in the tourist industry and are out of work. The school should take this into consideration.

      • Fees aren’t only owed during this period. Some parents still owe from first term. We’re in June. Outstanding fees are pre-covid conditions

  7. i really want to know where yall expect pple to get money from to pay school fees when we are even barely able to purchase food and struggling to pay rent to place a roof over over heads. if the teachers know this was going to be a problem why even have online classes. thing is they are not the only schools preying on parents. the country open up yes but persons are working days and salaries have been cut. thing is too yall send school work and the parents are the ones who still have to teach. yall not even asking for half or some of the school fees yall asking for ALL!
