Pringle Rallies Supporters at Protest, Vows to ‘Rescue’ Antigua and Barbuda

Opposition Leader Hon. Jamale Pringle delivered a fiery address on Thursday evening, declaring his unwavering commitment to the people of Antigua and Barbuda and vowing to “rescue” the country from what he described as a “terrible administration.”
Speaking at the culmination of the “De Whole Country Fed Up March” outside the old parliament building in St John’s, Mr Pringle thanked demonstrators for their resilience and called on supporters to remain focused on change.
“You are standing firm and resolute,” he said. “I’m not here for praise or recognition—I’m here to rescue Antigua and Barbuda.”
Throughout his speech, Mr Pringle heavily criticised the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) government, accusing it of presiding over repeated corruption scandals, rising taxes, and a cost-of-living crisis.
He argued that the struggles facing citizens—from crime to economic hardship—stem from government mismanagement.
“It is not the United Progressive Party that has failed you,” he told the crowd. “It is the current administration that has abandoned you.”
Mr Pringle also urged citizens to renew their voter registration cards in preparation for the next general election, which he said would be a defining moment for the nation.
“This election is not just for the UPP,” he said. “It is for the future of Antigua and Barbuda. If you love this country, you will vote to redeem it.”
He praised party officials and the people of Barbuda, who he said have shown the nation how to rid themselves of the ABLP. “Now it’s time for Antigua to follow suit,” he added.
The march and rally were part of growing calls by the opposition for governmental accountability, transparency, and reform. Pringle closed his remarks with an emotional pledge to continue fighting on behalf of his constituents.
“I will not forsake you. I will defend you. And together, we will ensure that the wealth of this nation is spread equitably across Antigua and Barbuda.”
The protest ended peacefully, with organisers hinting at future demonstrations in the coming months.
