Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle says the United Progressive Party will expand its public engagement efforts by holding town hall meetings across Antigua and Barbuda, arguing that citizens should play a direct role in shaping national policy.
Speaking during the party’s town hall on the government’s proposed third-country deportee arrangement, Pringle described the event as the first in a series of public consultations aimed at giving residents an opportunity to voice their views on issues affecting the country.
“As a Member of Parliament, as a representative of the people, it is important for me to speak on your behalf,” Pringle said. “But I don’t believe I can speak on your behalf not hearing from you.”
He said public participation is essential to the country’s development and should not be limited to elections or parliamentary debates.
“Interactions are critical for the forward movement of Antigua and Barbuda,” Pringle said.
The opposition leader announced that the UPP intends to take similar forums throughout the country to discuss not only the deportee proposal but other matters of national importance.
“This is the first of many more to come,” he said. “We are going to move through the length and breadth of Antigua and Barbuda, not only on this topic. Critical issues that affect the lives of our people must be discussed, not in closed-door meetings, but in town hall meetings where we can have you being part of the discussion.”
Pringle said the initiative is intended to ensure that public opinion informs the positions taken by the opposition on major national issues.
He urged citizens to become more involved in public affairs regardless of their political affiliation.
“I’m not asking you to be UPP. I’m not asking you to support me,” Pringle said. “What I’m asking is for all of us to support Antigua and Barbuda.”
The town hall focused on the government’s proposed agreement with the United States to accept third-country deportees, but Pringle said future meetings will address a broader range of national concerns affecting Anti

@GORD
“Caretakers” you say??? Well Richard and WINKKUP PASTOR days done. UPP will definitely replace their backstabbing, undermining asses for what they did to Pringle by leaking that infamous letter to the media.
@GORD
Totally in agreement with you. Pringle is the only UPP member who will win His seat.
What do you expect from UPP when the following STUPID Persons are Their Advisors.
AUDLEY JOSEPH ( A K A BEEF ) STUPID ARSE
IAN ( MAGIC ) HUGHES. MOLESTER
JOAN ( CRUSADER RADIO ) DUMBEST RADIO HOST
CROIF EMANUEL. REJECT
ANNE MCDONALD. Full of CRAP
The above mentioned are the Destroyers of UPP
UPP done. Let Us form a new POLITICAL party in Antigua , otherwise ABLP will stay in power forever.
This is why I go hard on the ABLP and Prime Minister Gaston Browne when they makes major mistakes on policies; international matters; and the plethora of misguided financial blunders that has plunged Antigua into recent scrutiny from other countries.
Jamal Pringle has the right as the opposition leader to voice his concerns on wayward government matters, but yet again, I’m reading more incoherent comments from the untutored Gastonites that make no sense at all, and is totally out of context to the subject matter.
Remember Gastonites and lickspittleites, sometimes it is wiser to keep one’s mout’ shut. As patriotic Antiguans 🇦🇬 would remind the ignorant:
“Ah no wantin’ tongue mek cattle can’t talk…”
@SHANE, the Shugy/Lewis party is in pipeline.
Having 2 other legitimate political parties to challenge ABLP’S domination and will save Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬 from Gaston Browne’s move towards an authoritarian one-party state.
