Pringle Declines COP29 Invitation from Prime Minister Browne

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has declined an invitation from Prime Minister Gaston Browne to join Antigua and Barbuda’s delegation to the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Brazil.

Browne extended the invitation as a gesture of national unity on climate advocacy, but government officials confirmed during a weekend discussion that Pringle “copped out” of the offer.

The Prime Minister said true leaders put the country’s interests above partisan considerations.

“Every invitation I got from the UPP when I was in opposition, I attended,” Browne said, recalling that he participated in events such as the launch of the national census and the groundbreaking ceremony for the V.C. Bird International Airport when the United Progressive Party was in office.

He described Pringle’s refusal as a missed opportunity to present a united national front on climate change—an issue he said is vital to the survival of small island states.

Antigua and Barbuda will join other Caribbean nations at COP29, where the agenda will focus on climate finance, loss and damage, and support for vulnerable developing countries.

  1. Mr. Pringle is needs to articulate the rationale behind his decision to decline this offer. The COP meeting holds significant importance, and the public is entitled to understand the considerations that informed this choice.

  2. The Opposition Leader is perfectly right not to accept Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s invitation to go with him to the COP29 Conference in Brazil..
Let him carry his minions or Maria with him, since when they respect Jamale Pringle as Opposition Leader, he needs to call the Public Enquiry into the Multi Million Dollars Vehicles Scandal if he knows what good for him..

  3. Well it goes to show that the DEAD DARG, CA-CA-CAPA-SEE-TAH, UPSIDE DOWN BIBLE Leader of the Opposition knows that he is the dullest tool in the shed.

    Leadership really matters indeed

  4. Perhaps he is planning his wedding for the same dates as COP. Afterall schoolchildren say, some kind of “Black Hadeed” building a big house for him round south

  5. I would love to see the end of the antagonistic relationship between government and opposition. Governance of the country is the responsibility of every elected Member of Parliament, both Government and Opposition. It is imperative that they work together for the benefit of the country and its citizens. It cannot be selective invitation, when the government feels like though. Government must begin to treat the Opposition as a co equal part of governance and cease behaving that it’s all about them. Opposition parties are expected to challenge the government but they do not have to oppose just for opposition sake.

  6. Did I just read that correctly?

“True leaders put countries interest over partisan considerations”.

That got to be the biggest joke of the day.. 😂.

How convenient Browne boy. This after you allowed the peoples purse to be looted and robbed to the tunes of millions.

And by the way.. majority of the people in Antigua are not interested in your political hoax called ” climate Justice”.

This man has to be a comedian.. 😂..

  7. The PM cannot choose when he really wants the opposition leader to take part in certain things. The invitation should have been offered on many more occasions but it was not. Look kinder fishy it is now being offered tho.

  8. Pringle is perfectly right not to accept any invitation from Gaston Browne because I know and many people know it’s not genuine. Gaston will use that occasion and throw it back at Pringle. Gaston is like a cow giving a pale of milk then turn around and kick it down. BIG UP PRINGLE.

  9. Mr Pringle is quite correct for so doing since the Gaston brown government is in climate romanticization for monetary donations, and on the other hand the same Gaston move with alacrity to go parliament to give white investors buffer zone and authority to bulldoze mangroves and swamp lands for a few white elites to build their private homes and play golf.
And as trump say it’s a hoax, imagine that a cow fart is considered methane gas and dangerous that the cow should be eliminated and not the bombs from the military industrial complex that is sending toxic fumes into the atmosphere daily as they explode in Israel war.
When Pringle would have used the opposition office to secure funds to whatever offshore bank account that Gaston have set up to receive it, not even the auditor general will see that going into the consolidated funds, so the backlash and criticism Mr Pringle is getting don’t worry because you don’t need Gaston validation.

  10. This valid Climate change is important but he can decline for a number of reasons like the government handling of the vehicle fraud. This government has not made any strives for green energy in my eyes all they have done is installed solar panels a decade ago without storage which may be passed their lifespan and nothing since which is all I can see in Antigua. Outside stadium they are parts of a windmill that just been sitting there for how long and most people might not even know it’s s windmill. It’s honestly really hard to take anything serious about climate when the bear minimum isn’t even there.

Batteries are expensive for solar but their technology which makes it very achievable and we should have at least be able to power a large percentage of the population off green energy or at least the government buildings and new projects like the reverse osmosis plants are green since they are power hungry which could be increasing the electricity rates.

Also allow residents to run their homes off solar and stop restricting then to gain money by not allowing them to install battery which are needed even in the day to make up the power demand in cases like clouds or rain but it hurts more in the night for homes since that’s when most of the power is used in because that’s when you’re getting home from work and such running your devices so they putting you on the APUA grind adding insult to injury you’re only getting part half the rate for selling your excess solar power to the grid

  11. Who is advising Pringle? Why does he always seem to oppose opportunities to learn and demonstrate leadership?

    Come on man!!
