Prime Minister Browne Criticizes Barbuda Council for Failing to Cooperate

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has criticized the Barbuda Council for their lack of cooperation after canceling a planned meeting with the government and failing to offer an alternative date.

Browne’s remarks come in the wake of the council’s initial proposal to engage the government in a more consultative and cooperative process, which the Prime Minister said his administration was open to.

However, when a meeting was scheduled for last Thursday, the Barbuda Council canceled it, citing various reasons, and did not suggest any new dates to meet, despite the government proposing an alternative date for the following Tuesday.

“They came up with a myriad of excuses why they cannot meet,” Browne said, expressing disappointment in their failure to follow through on their own initiative.

Browne suggested that the council may be realizing that their “irresponsible rhetoric” is losing its effectiveness, which could explain their reluctance to meet.

He also accused the council of trying to take credit for government projects, such as road development, while simultaneously acting as obstructionists by not engaging in the consultative process.

“You can’t have it both ways,” Browne stated, emphasizing that genuine cooperation would allow the council to share in the credit for developmental achievements. He criticized the council for attempting to appear cooperative while blocking progress, calling this a “mutually exclusive” position.

The Prime Minister called on the Barbuda Council to reconsider their approach, urging them to stop playing political games and work towards the benefit of their constituents.

“I hope they’ll come to their senses,” he said, reaffirming the government’s willingness to cooperate but warning that continued obstructionism would not be tolerated.

  1. PM you are wasting your time. Don’t ever hold your breath ever thinking they will come to their senses. They are and will never be honest brokers. When they smile in your face, know that they hold a dagger in their hand ready to stab you down. They do not share the vision you have for their Island. They will never buy in to the fact that Barbuda Land is Crown Land. The UPP had the same problem with vision. Baldwin had no vision. When he was ask by a young lady what his vision was for the country he was dumbfounded. The PM from day one had a vision for this country. Which is to make Antigua and Barbuda an economic powerhouse in the Caribbean. And what have we seen since, The UPP laughing and finding he vision so impossible like chasing the stars. Well the Bible said without a vision the people perish. Even companies have Vision and Mission Statements to get employees to rally behind the same cause. These statements when find buy-in by the employees, produces many high performance for the company. People going the extra mile. Working for something bigger then themselves. It would be good to find out what the BPM vision is for Barbuda. Perhaps it can then be marriage with that of the PM. We know from the many confrontations that they certainly do not want big development projects. If they could close the border they would have done so. In order to keep certain people out of their Island.

  2. I don’t understand why all the boycotting. Then ya’ll tell the people all sorts a rubbish, but ya’ll are not representing the people. This is not a good look. Fix it please!
