Prime Minister Gaston Browne Unveils New Airbnb Development Plans at Pensioners Beach

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced an ambitious plan to transform the area surrounding Pensioners Beach into a hub for Airbnb properties. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance economic opportunities for Antiguans and Barbudans while ensuring the preservation of public beach access.

The government will be dividing the land around Pensioners Beach into quarter-acre lots. These lots will be made available to local citizens for the development of Airbnb properties. Prime Minister Browne highlighted the potential for significant revenue generation through these properties, encouraging residents to take advantage of this opportunity.

“We are creating opportunities for our people to generate substantial income through Airbnb rentals,” Browne stated. “These properties do not need to be extravagant. A reasonable investment can yield significant returns.”

Prime Minister Browne emphasized the importance of practicality and economy in the construction of these properties. He advised potential investors to focus on building economical yet comfortable accommodations designed for rental purposes rather than personal luxury homes. “This is about making money on your investment, not building a dream home. Use minimum resources to build efficient and attractive rental properties,” he advised.

To support this development, the government will allocate approximately two acres of land near Pensioners Beach for a public beach park. This park will provide ample space for recreation and parking, ensuring that beach access remains available to all residents and visitors.

Prime Minister Browne cited a successful example from Dredge Bay, where a previously underdeveloped property was transformed into a beautiful and lucrative asset. This serves as an inspiration for what can be achieved at Pensioners Beach with the right investment and vision.

  1. Honestly, when is enough going to be enough? He’s giving away our beaches for the the sake of Tourism! With no regards as to how much these beaches truly mean to us. We make sure it’s clean everytime we leave so we don’t create pollution gradually harming the ecosystem. It may be an Air bnb today, but ite will be a hotel with large fences covering the entire beach. It’s like a slap in the face now that you think of it. Before it was “The people of Antigua and Barbuda”, now, we all seem to forget where were from and our patriotism even to stand up for our sake of live. Now, it’s just the people of antigua and barbuda.

Are you assuming that a hotel will be added to the Pensioners Beach development? Is there anything for which you guys can’t find the negative? That’s all you do?

Are you able to construct an Airbnb property for the sake of providing accommodation for families visiting their graduants or students who might be attending the UWI Five Islands Campus?

What is the alternative? Any ideas to offer for sustainable development?
    Go ahead, I’m listening…

  3. Dave Ray, why does it always have to involve beach front property when it comes to development?
What, can’t we leave a few beaches pristine. Damm man. This government just selling every damm thing off, what happen our children not suppose to come and own a piece of this land. I don’t care whether it’s locals or expats leave the beaches and let them use some other area. Government still own plenty land, or maybe not. Who really knows. Before they organize our land stock as too what amount of lands we do own and what areas and tell young people top buy car and buy land but I guess more money can make from gas.

  4. I would like to purchase one of the lots, wanted an Air B&B for a long never could find the right lot

  5. This is not such a bad idea ifff they also then convert the other accomodations already available empty around the island in villages into low cost rentals for locals. There are lots of people who need affordable rentals and there are lots of rentals sitting empty because they are priced too high for locals but they are located in areas tourists don’t wish to stay in. So, sure create a dedicated area for tourist rentals and introduce legislation that rentals in other areas should be for locals and priced affordably. If current owners don’t wish to deal with locals as tenants they can just sell those properties to others who are.

  6. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔we sold out each other during slavery and in this century still happening. Black ppl are very bad minded…PM just doesn’t want serpent to host his big people party anymore. What will be left for our children’s children… think people. One thing to remember we all met lands here and we all will die and leave them right here.

What’s ironic is the fact that there is always a push back on every proposal by the administration, even without merit. It’s simply the nature of the beast.

I remember hearing the PM state that the beach will continue to be accessible to the general public.

Locals will now have a chance to invest in properties designated for this area.

Do you have any alternative spaces that can be utilized for ventures such as these?

This is an opportunity for locals to invest in structures that can be sustainable financially over time.
By the way, is there any alternative locations that you deem to be more appropriate for ventures such as these?
