Transparency: Government to Releases Full Accounting of Alfa Nero Sale

The Antigua and Barbuda government has released a detailed financial report on the sale of the luxury yacht Alfa Nero, following allegations of financial mismanagement.

In a national address, Prime Minister Gaston Browne dismissed claims of wrongdoing surrounding the high-profile transaction, which saw the seized vessel sold at auction. He stated that the government would provide a full breakdown of all funds received and how they were allocated.

“To this end, the Financial Secretary will, in the coming days, publish a complete, transparent accounting of all monies that were received from the sale of the Alfa Nero, and exactly how every cent was spent,” Browne said.

Defending the Sale

The sale of the Alfa Nero has been mired in controversy, with critics—particularly from the political opposition—raising concerns about transparency and the handling of proceeds. The yacht, reportedly owned by a sanctioned Russian oligarch, was sold after being abandoned in Antigua’s waters.

International news outlet The Associated Press recently published an article citing allegations of impropriety, prompting strong rebuttals from Browne. He accused members of the opposition of feeding misinformation to foreign media in an attempt to damage the government’s reputation.

“These claims or allegations have no truth whatsoever,” he asserted.

Browne further indicated that the government is considering legal action against those responsible for what he described as “malicious” allegations.

“Legal action is also being contemplated against all who conspired to create these falsehoods in an attempt to malign and smear hard-earned reputations,” he said.

While he did not specify potential defendants, the Prime Minister suggested that those behind the accusations may soon have to defend their statements in court.

Calls for Accountability

The promise of financial disclosure comes amid growing calls for transparency from the public and opposition figures. Critics argue that details of the transaction should have been released sooner to dispel doubts about the sale process.

With the government now committed to publishing a full report, attention will turn to whether the figures align with official statements. The upcoming financial breakdown is expected to clarify how the proceeds were utilized and whether any further questions remain unanswered.

  2. As expected a redacted document for the Antiguan public or fools, while they secure a bargain with foreign legal jurisdiction to keep it from the public.

  3. When the boat was anchored here for months nobody came forward to claim it, when hurricane threatened our shores no one claimed it. But from the time they put it out for sale all of a sudden out of nowhere someone came forward. Well bitch, the boat done sell and are we done yam off the money and shit um out.

  4. Despite the moment of national grief and mourning, he couldn’t let go of his political grievances and his stabbing against the opposition.
