Prime Minister, the Honourable Gaston Browne, met today with the UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS), Her Excellency Rabab Fatima, on the margins of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Prime Minister Browne opened the discussions by extending warmest congratulations to Ms. Fatima, who was recently appointed as the High Representative of OHRLLS in August 2022.

Her new role comes with the challenging task of mobilizing international support for the most vulnerable United Nations Member States by ensuring that their urgent needs remain high on the international agenda.

Prime Minister Browne took the opportunity to discuss priorities for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), especially in his capacity as Chair of the Alliance for the Small Islands States (AOSIS).

Some crucial points he raised include the issue of Climate Change where SIDS hope to chart a way forward for loss and damage finance; the use of a Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) for vulnerable states to have better access to concessional financing; and the Fourth UN International Conference on SIDS, which Antigua and Barbuda will host in 2024.

The OHRLLS High Representative commended Prime Minister Browne for Antigua and Barbuda’s undertaking of hosting the 4th International SIDS Conference.

The conference is a defining moment for SIDS to focus global attention on their unique vulnerabilities. She expressed the unwavering support of the OHRLLS in ensuring that the conference will be a resonating success filled with concrete deliverables for SIDS.

The OHRLLS High Representative also took the opportunity to reaffirm support for SIDS in the fight against climate change and the resulting loss and damage and to build consensus on the application of the MVI.

Prime Minister Browne was accompanied to the meeting by Education Minister the Hon.  Daryll Matthew, Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Aubrey Webson and Counsellor with the Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations Tumasie Blair.

  1. congratulations Ms. Fatima, on your recent appointment as the High Representative of OHRLLS. I am Gaston Browne.
Where is the benefit to Antigua and Barbuda 🇦🇬?
Another trip, all expenses paid by the taxpayers of Antigua and Barbuda, for Gaston Browne, Daryl Matthew plus 2 chaperones

    • You are showing your ignorance. It’s better you keep your mouth shut then to open it and let us remove all doubt. INEPT.

  2. Begging for money and say its to help the population then use the same money to fund the election giving handouts.
    It’s not going to work.

    • What is the Haig? Is that a new country? LMAO. You guys are so inept it’s not funny.
I guess they have their foots on your necks as well. LMAO

  3. Whey him dey?

Why is our Prime Minister still shying away from coming back home?

All of his recent travels could have been done by any one of his underlings.

Antigua’s economy and many of their citizens are struggling financially, yet, Gaston “Mi Soon Come” Browne is still dancing abroad.

    Here’s a prediction as I see it:

The Prime Minister now knows he lost an opportunity to call an election earlier this year, and all options are now closed and gone with the wind for the ABLP.

HOWEVER, HE’LL CALL THE ELECTION WHEN HE EVENTUALLY RETURNS HOME … WHAT ELSE CAN HE DO?

    • Idiot PM Browne is not do nothing Lovell . Formally invited to the UN on the behalf of the beautiful Country of Antigua and Barbuda. Things to do people to meet in bringing more to the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus.

  4. You guys forgot when Baldwin used to travel to the UN with his entourage. Ahd where did he stay? At the Waldorf Hotel and he was so impressed by it that he came back and told us which famous President slept there.

  5. Big up ya self World Boss. You always represent us well at the UN and other places!

When last has Baldwin “ASHE LIED” Spencer travelled to the US? That JOHN ASHE UPP SCANDAL left a shitty taste in the FBI mouth boy.

“Former Antigua –Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer Linked To UN Bribery Scandal involving Ex Amabassador John Ashe”

“The UPP leadership including Baldwin Spencer had an obligation to ascertain from Dr John Ashe, the ultimate source of funding for the monies being donated”

  6. Spencer implicated in UN bribery scandal:

“Former prime minister Baldwin Spencer is said to have accepted a ‘KICK BACK’ from Dr. Ache’s ill-gotten gains.”

  7. These are the stupid comments that irritates me. And whilst we argue shit about people who only have economic power, the Chinese, Syrian and white people are taking over here economically. Why not work towards creating local enterprises that the young black child leaving school can benefit from? No factories, not even a park where families can sit, socialize. Something is really wrong with us as a people. Slandering people’s name under the guise of anonymity. Everything doesn’t have to be blue and red.
