Prime Minister Browne Discusses Future Prospects for Antigua and Barbuda
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has shared an optimistic vision for the future of Antigua and Barbuda, emphasizing the nation’s resilience and potential for growth.
“The future of Antigua and Barbuda is bright if we seize the opportunities as a caring nation,” he stated, reflecting on the challenges the country has faced while highlighting the collective strength of its people.
Browne pointed out that despite the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic hurdles, the country has demonstrated remarkable resilience.
“Through swift, decisive action and careful management, we saved lives and safeguarded livelihoods,” he remarked, noting that Antigua and Barbuda experienced a strong recovery, with the economy growing by 7.8% in 2023.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of unity in overcoming challenges, stating, “Our collective success depends on more than just government action.”
He called on every citizen, business, and worker to contribute to a thriving society, emphasizing that the potential for progress lies in shared responsibility and collaboration.
Browne highlighted several transformative projects underway that are reshaping the economy and providing unprecedented opportunities for citizens.
“On Barbuda, we have witnessed incredible progress,” he noted, referencing the reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Irma and the development of the new international airport, which opens the island to international tourism.
He also mentioned ambitious tourism developments in Antigua, including luxury resorts like the upcoming Nikki Beach Resort and the One & Only Hotel.
“These projects will stimulate our economy and create jobs for our people,” he asserted, underlining the vital role that tourism plays in the nation’s economic landscape.
Looking ahead, Browne emphasized the importance of sustainable practices and climate resilience. “We must draw inspiration from small nations that have achieved extraordinary economic progress,” he stated, referring to countries like Singapore and South Korea.
He believes that Antigua and Barbuda can rise to new heights by harnessing its potential and focusing on sustainable development.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to investing in the youth, education, and healthcare, stating, “We are building the socio-economic infrastructure that will uplift every citizen.” He expressed confidence that with continued investment and a commitment to excellence, Antigua and Barbuda can secure a prosperous future.
