Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that qualifying Antiguan citizens will receive free tuition at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus once its expansion programme is completed.
Delivering the 2026 National Budget, Mr Browne said education remains central to the country’s long-term development and confirmed that the campus is undergoing major upgrades to increase capacity, modernise facilities and broaden its academic programmes.
He said the policy is designed to widen access to tertiary education, strengthen the country’s skills base and ease the financial burden on citizens seeking higher qualifications.

Nothing is FREE when the taxpayers will end up footing the bill; and, even if philanthropic monies may be or will be involved in these promises, this can never be possible in the long term.
This is just another political ploy, gimmickry to fool the people into voting his corrupt government back into power.
Will the administrators, professors and maintenance departments be working for free?
The taxpayers will pay for this one way or another.
@NOTHING IS FREE! ELECTION PLOY!, Yes everyone knows it’s subsidised by tax the point that it’s free at point of sale and paid for collectively.
The key thing to note is wording used “qualifying Antiguan citizens will receive free tuition” which can just be described as a scholarship that isn’t to different from that government already gives out
This is the only good idea this PM has had in 12 years. Good news for indigenous Antiguans. UWI Five Islands Antigua for Antiguan people.
