President of the Senate, Honourable Alinicia Williams Grant to serve on OAS CIM Executive Committee
January 14th, 2025 — The President of the Senate, the Honourable Alinica Williams-Grant, is now Antigua and Barbuda’s Principal Delegate to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM).
Minister of State within the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment, The Honourable Michael Joseph formally nominated the President of the Senate to serve in this role, through the Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda, to the OAS.
Established In 1928, the CIM was the first intergovernmental agency established to ensure recognition of women’s human rights, and is the only hemispheric political forum for women’s rights and gender equality.
In 2022, at the OAS CIM Assembly of Delegates, in Panama, Antigua and Barbuda was elected as one of the countries to serve a 3-year term on the Executive Committee. Former Minister of Social Transformation and leader of Government Business in the Senate, Ms. Samantha Marshall previously held the post of Principal Delegate to the CIM, and Executive Committee member, on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda. She is being succeeded by the Honourable Alincia Williams Grant, President of the Senate in Antigua and Barbuda, who will serve the remainder of Antigua and Barbuda’s term on the Executive Committee.
