Roadworks on All Saints Road Expected to Accelerate in Coming Weeks

Preparatory work on the All Saints Road reconstruction project is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, with officials indicating that technical planning and logistical arrangements are nearing completion.

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office Maurice Merchant said detailed groundwork is underway ahead of the start of major construction on the roadway, which runs from All Saints Road to English Harbour.

“The pace is being accelerated,” Merchant said, adding that “lots of technical work is being carried out.”

He said preparations include finalizing contracts, ordering equipment and arranging shipping ahead of the commencement of works.

“As it relates to contracts and ordering of equipment, finalizing the shipping of equipment for the start of the work, lots of groundwork has already been done by the company,” Merchant said.

Merchant said assessments are also being conducted to minimize disruption to motorists during construction.

“They have been mapping out diversions to provide minimal disturbance to the flow of traffic in Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.

He said an announcement on the start date for construction is expected soon.

“I believe in a week or two, an announcement will be made… that work will commence at a particular time,” Merchant said, noting that officials are close to finalizing remaining details.

The All Saints Road project is one of several major infrastructure works being advanced by the government, with officials indicating that planning efforts are focused on ensuring smooth execution once construction begins.

  1. At last!!!

My only concern about the ongoing delays in resurfacing All Saints Road after all the promises made before Christmas from Maria Bird-Browne about starting, is the word in the headline “expected”.

Really Housing Minister, I mean how long is a piece of string?

Start the work nah, plenty vehicles still getting damaged to this day.

BTW, can I claim for my burst tire on that same stretch of road s couple of years ago?

  2. I’m just sick and tired of these promises and these damn roads in general . Where do I start ………..
Maria had the heart to say a few months ago that Antigua’s roads are as smooth as a baby’s bottom ; what kinda baby she referring to ? A baby crocodile?
    For us to be a country that peddle tourism , I think it’s a shame for the roads that lead to the English harbour , Betty’s Hope and not to mention Devil’s Bridge is in awful condition… Some taxi drivers have to resort to taking the long way to English harbor just to avoid the infamous All Saints road and use factory Rd and make a right unto Jonas road and even that road is not in no great condition….. I mean come on man ;
our ” BADWUD” vehicles are taking a pounding daily on these roads . The only good stretch of road we have is valley Road . And can someone explain to me what the hell is up with the constant cutting out of factory from the Xpz all the way to willikies ????? Every Jesus Christ day C.O.Williams dig up the road and just leave it there sitting for weeks before they resurface it ; I can’t count the amount of time drivers almost crash because they trying to swerve to avoid damaging dem suspension on them sharp drop off in the road . No warning, no cone, no reflector indicating nutten. I drive on that road daily and really don’t see the cause for this constant construction. Even if the road technicians see a future problem with the road , there is so much more roads around that needs even a drop of that asphalt……..
The newly built Friars hill road hab eeen more hole than wa John Read bout , Herbert’s Rd & Potters Rd too waa sort out . Relevant Authorities COME ONNN….. Out vehicle Licensing went up last year ; let us see where our money is going.
I’m an ABLP supported but this is not about politics… rite a rite .

  3. A promise is comfort to a fool. After a year hence since the forty percent increase in registration fees was enacted. To think there is still this gullible gibberish about technical procurement; is asinine: as if it is a brand new road way conception they will to be embarking upon. When in truth and facts: All that is needed is a good faith effort to start the proposed process: knowing that all that will be done, is shaving the present road surface, to remove the present asphalt, and then start with a layer of gravel, sand, fine aggregate compacted (instead of maul; for a more durable road bedding. Add curvature to the flat road bed, and pitch at 1/8″ @20 feet for drainage to channel excessive water into culvert where necessary; before applying the final layer of hot-mix aggregated asphalt. This is not rocket science (should there be need to remind them of ther intrinsic decision making inertia) I’ll wave my consultant fee, pro bono; in lew of the acceptance of my patriotic national contribution, asap.

  4. Nice soundbite ZEENA. It isn’t because you cannot address the issue/topic at hand is it?

ABLP supporters have learnt well about deflection from their leader Gassston 🥸

If brains were offered out to them for free, they’d still refuse 😂
