Residents of Barbuda are experiencing power outages after technical issues affected the island’s Green Barbuda Solar Hybrid Plant, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has confirmed.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, APUA said a fault occurred between 2:00pm and 5:00pm on 2 September, causing an emergency outage after one of the facility’s UPS units failed.

The utility company added that a similar problem developed early Wednesday morning at around 4:00am, which has left engineers working to restore supply.

“The technicians are working in close collaboration with the plant installers to resolve the issue,” the statement said.

The areas impacted stretch from the Council Building to Two Foot Bay, though APUA said it was unable to provide a timeline for full restoration.

“Every effort is being made to restore power,” the utility assured, apologising for the disruption and thanking customers for their patience.

  1. Ok so there is not a proper diesel generator in the APUA possession? The solar power is dynamic base on weather patterns, how unprofessional of electricity manager, that guy is just job entitled because of political connections, he destroyed Antigua power production capacity to support private interest and so to is Barbuda power station.
Maybe he is creating the situation and then come with the solution, and that’s is private power station contract for Barbuda.
But the good technicians in APUA will work hard to get that resolve, because nothing there the electricity manager can really do but being an oppressive CEO.
