Amid the ongoing staff protest against the working conditions at the Antigua and Barbuda General Post Office, workers have no made a formal allegation against their boss, the Postmaster General Algernon Gomes.
The Permanent Secretary responsible for the Post Office Sandra Joseph fielded a number of complaints about the general condition of the building’s work area when the issue of the ‘unusable’ and horrid state of the staff bathrooms arose.
One staff member took the opportunity to report to Permanent Secretary Joseph that while making a complaint about the bathrooms being filthy that the Postmaster then in turn referred to the staff being, “filthy just like the bathrooms.”
Gomes refuted those claims, however, at the impromptu meeting and said that, “That’s not what I said.”
“I reported what the construction men found in the bathroom. I said the bathrooms were filthy,” Gomes defended.
This claim was met with immediate uproar by staff members present at the time of the alleged slight.
“No no no no no… nutten go so! Ms. Joseph, he said we’re a bunch of filthy staff. That’s what he said. He wasn’t referring to the bathroom!” exclaimed many of the staff members in attendance.
Members from the Antigua and Barbuda Trades and Labour Union along with the Department of Labour and the Post Office officials were to have a meeting yesterday to discuss this matter along with the ongoing working conditions at the General Post Office at 2pm yesterday.

If the boss did in fact say tge workers are filthy I do not agree that that should have been said. I do find that most government buildings are not very well up kept and are generally dilapidated. Just look at the situation with the poice station bathroom. What really is the reason for this?
If the bathrooms are filthy, who made them become filthy? Is it not the same workers. Because no one can come from the street and use the bathroom. Therefore his general statement is not incorrect. And my be insulting to some. But as they say. WHO THE CAP FITS LET THEM WEAR IT.
