Pompey Criticises Silence on Police Officers Implicated in High-Profile Murders
Former Commissioner of Police Rawlston Pompey has questioned the lack of public updates from the police’s Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) unit regarding high-profile murder cases involving law enforcement officers as suspects.
Pompey’s comments, made during an appearance on Antigua Newsroom, highlighted two unresolved cases:
The murder of Mannie James, in which a police constable and a private soldier have reportedly been implicated but remain uncharged.
The killing of Yenifer Bridges, whose body was found on Fig Tree Drive under suspicious circumstances, hours after her infant son was discovered abandoned in bushes along Jonas Road. A police officer and his civilian brother are alleged to have links to the case.
Pompey expressed concern over what he described as “apparent deliberate delays” in these investigations and questioned whether STRATCOM would address the issue in 2025.
STRATCOM, responsible for managing police communications, has been criticised for its perceived silence on cases involving police officers. While recent arrests in other cases have been publicised, questions remain about the transparency of investigations involving law enforcement personnel.
Pompey’s remarks come as police announced charges against Mishkah John, a 33-year-old from Yorks, in connection with the 16 December murder of Javaughn Joseph. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained during a shooting outside a nightclub on Redcliffe Street.
Pompey has called for equal transparency in cases where law enforcement officers are under investigation.
The families of Mannie James and Yenifer Bridges, as well as the broader public, continue to seek answers. STRATCOM has not yet commented on Pompey’s criticism or provided updates on the status of these investigations.

rumor….Two of the original investigators are friends’ to the perpetrator’s family…One went on sick leave and the other….well…
This is one time will I expect you Garots to complain…
I listened to the Commissioner of Police in an interview when the body of Asot Michael was found murdered he promise that they have contacted the Brits and other agencies to include Scotland Yard may I remind you that when we had the two boarder security Custom officers one was disabled and one was killed and others who may attached to the department we were told that the Scotland Yard will be assisting in the investigation. Shortly after the arrest in the murder of the Custom officer and the arrest in the murder of Asot Michael we heard nothing the same trend I remember the killing of Comptroller of custom many years ago those men were taking into custody and were released the Scotland yard came and they were taken back into custody and was charged and convicted I am not convinced that those individuals in custody for Custom officer and Michael are the culprits For the custom investigation would have started inside the office of the MP he had a lot to say his signature was forge ask the senator who told us about five jobs she would have questions to answer No Scotland Yard
There’s nothing new about the intentional suppression of information in regards to law enforcements crimes. Mannie James’s killing is a perfect example; why he ran is irrelevant — the evidence shows he was running AWAY from law
enforcement when he was shot in the back. A clear case of unreasonable & excessive force. Antiguans accepts one set of rules for civilians, and a different set of rules for the state sponsored terrorists; hence, the reason why nothing will change.
So why doesn’t the verbose ex-policeman tell the public what he knows and thinks the public needs to know! What about the reign of terror, especially against members.of the rastafarian communities allegedly carried out under his watch. Write your book, man!. I’m sure it would be a best seller.

The [irony] of Rawlston Pompey’s comments on these crimes, the behaviour of other former law enforcement personnel after they retire or are forced out of the RPFAB, they seem, tend to, are saying a lot (some negatively) about the way crimes are investigated, who are indicted, charged, prosecuted.
Questions to Rawlston Pompey, Trevor Young, Nuttfield Burnette or any other law enforcement officer/official …
A…why wait, until [you] leave the force to bring such negative behaviors in the RPFAB, to the public? Why not do such, when you are employed and it’s your duty and responsibility to bring such to the attention of the DPP or Attorney General? Maybe you have, who knows. However, actions speak louder than words.
B…this question will rattle some of you. Would such actions, as not speaking up when in the position to do so, and is your sworn duty to do so be considered a ‘derelict of duty?’
The repercussions, of one being a #whistle blower, in Antigua is far reaching; therefore, it’s understandable why many are reluctant to come forward and speak the truth.
It appears, as if we the public is only informed with the truth, by those who know the truth when monies can be made.
As the Ancients say, “Babylon nah easy!”
