Poll finds cost of living and crime among major concerns for residents

A poll conducted ahead of the next general election has found that cost of living is among major concerns for residents.

In the latest CADRES poll by Peter Wickhman, residents were asked to present the major national issues of concern to them.

“And it is noteworthy that on this occasion the Cost of Living is the major concern with 27% of Antiguans, while Unemployment and Crime shared the second spot at 15%.”

Wickham says this is a changed scenario from June of 2016 when the last national
poll was conducted by CADRES.

At that time, 26% of Antiguans or the majority of persons polled were concerned about unemployment which has now slipped to 15%, while the Cost of Living has moved
from 19% in 2016 to 27% currently.

The pollster says this is suggesting that “more Antiguans are working but are now finding it difficult to cope.”

The poll conducted between Feb 2-5 found that concerns about the economy has declined marginally from 13% in 2016 to 11% currently.
